Lots going on with SPACE COMMAND.

First off, I’m busy at work on the series bible, outlines, premises, beat sheets, character bios and more. Soon will finish the first two scripts and move into the full-on pre-production stage.

Iain McCaig is busy designing characters – including this wonderful drawing of Christina Moses as Princess Lianna…

At the same time, Doug Drexler’s overseeing incredible designs and construction, lots of activity…

On Sunday at noon Pacific Time, we’ll have our third live-streaming meeting for our backers, Space Cadet members and other interested parties at my office, which will also be archived for later viewing.

As to the Talent Search, we’ve been busy coordinating with actors eager to be considered for the roles – with over 7,000 submissions!

Our team is going through the submissions for the first consideration, to then winnow it down to a number our backers can watch and vote on. Those videos will be available for viewing in early September on the SPACE COMMAND website.

Our main priority is that each actor be given attention and treated with the respect they deserve.

Our dear PR, branding and marketing whiz Mike Bawden is flying out Sunday from Iowa to meet with us and other team members, and to have some high-level meetings I can’t talk about as yet. Great stuff in the works!

The subject line is a riff on a line from THINGS TO COME, one of my favorite films, written by the great H.G. Wells.

As you probably know by now, our SPACE COMMAND Kickstarter campaign concluded by hitting $221, 267! THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

We concluded at Comic-Con with a great SPACE COMMAND panel with myself, Doug Drexler, Michael Reaves, Iain McCaig, Doug Jones, Katharine McEwan, Christina Moses, David Raiklen, Justin Massion and Cindy Au from Kickstarter.

Doug Drexler presented an AMAZING reel with phenomenal new shots.

Iain showed off GREAT NEW character designs – and drew a lucky audience member as an alien that will appear in the movie!

And David played his inspiring SPACE COMMAND music.

We did a number of signings of INCREDIBLE SPACE COMMAND POSTERS by Doug Drexler and Iain McCaig. Katherine McEwan and Christina Moses signed as well – a great time had by all. (And special thanks to Jonathan London of GEEKSCAPE for hosting us!)

Then we finished it all off with our incredible SPACE COMMAND COUNTDOWN PARTY, with a live-streaming feed for our backers, with myself, Doug Jones, Iain McCaig and many of our team answering questions from folks around the world.

We’re glad you asked… Here’s a video talking about that (and extra brownie points for those identifying the lobby card behind me).

There’s much work ahead – and a great future too. It’s a dream come true, thanks to all of you.

Yesterday I met in Pacific Palisades with my dear friend writer-producer Gabe Sachs (FREAKS AND GEEKS, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, ARK), who’s been advising me.

On the way home, I turned off Sunset onto a familiar street and took a few minutes to stand in front of Rod Serling’s home, where I spent so many hours and days and months in my youth, researching my book THE TWILIGHT ZONE COMPANION.

Standing there, thinking of Rod, and of Gene Roddenberry (who gave the eulogy at Rod’s funeral), I felt so much a part of the great flow of science fiction, so inspired and grateful to them, and to all of you.

There are great days ahead. You’ll be part of it, every step of the way. As Oswald Cabal said at the end of THINGS TO COME, “It’s all the Universe or Nothingness – which shall it be?”

Thanks to you, it’s the Universe.

Our SPACE COMMAND panel at Comic-Con was a HUGE TRIUMPH!

What a lineup – Doug Drexler, Iain McCaig, Doug Jones, Michael Reaves, Christina Moses, Katharine McEwan, David Raiklen, Justin Massion and Cindy Au from Kickstarter, in front of hundreds of cheering fans!

Doug unveiled his AMAZING NEW TRAILER and Iain premiered dazzling new character designs. We picked a lucky young man from the audience and Iain drew him as a SPACE COMMAND alien on the spot.

The signing with Christina Moses was also a thrill, with fans of SPACE COMMAND, THE TWILIGHT ZONE COMPANION, my MAGIC TIME BOOKS and other TV credits showing up to cheer us on.

We have another signing today at the Geekscape booth at 11 AM, with myself, Iain and Doug signing incredible SPACE COMMAND posters.

Then I’ll be sitting in on the memorial for my dear friend Ray Bradbury with Margaret Atwood, George Clayton Johnson and Joe Hill.

And THEN we’ll be having the SPACE COMMAND COUNTDOWN PARTY at the Embassy Suites Monterrey Ballroom from 6-9 PM Pacific Time as we celebrate the finale of our amazing Kickstarter Campaign!

We’ll be LIVE STREAMING SO YOU’RE ALL INVITED! Don’t miss it!

Another INCREDIBLE day – we hit $200,000 on Kickstarter and made
Kickstarter’s Pick of the Day!

This all happened while I was appearing on panels and doing signings
at Comic-Con at the Geekscape booth with our terrific actors Christina
Moses and Doug Jones, who joined in the festivities:

Meanwhile I’ve been before the camera and microphones, talking to Fox
News, the Wall Street Journal and many more.

At the same time, I’ve been working hard to answer all your questions
and address your comments as they’ve been coming in.

One that was really important was that I lay out more specifics of our
storyline and characters. I’d been doing that in press interviews but
not here. So I shot this at the Con:

Hard to believe we’re in the final days of our SPACE COMMAND Kickstarter campaign!

The time has gone by SO fast -- and we’ve made so many great friends along the way.

Iain McCaig, my dear friend and brilliant character designer of STAR WARS and many great films, is busily painting his incredible designs for our SPACE COMMAND characters.

It’s been very busy the last few days, with many interviews, including the Wall Street Journal and numerous podcasts, radio shows and fan sites around the world. I’ve been talking with many of our wonderful cast and crewmembers, including Dean Haglund, famed Lone Gunman of THE X-FILES. What a great guy!

It’s amazing how much is coming together so early in our creative journey. It’s hard to remember that only two months ago no one had even heard of SPACE COMMAND, and now we’re making headlines around the world!

And things only promise to get busier in the next few days, which will include…

COMIC CON!

I headed down to the Con this morning, leaving from the super-cool Union Station, where BLADE RUNNER was filmed.

In fact, this wooden structure was actually BUILT for BLADE RUNNER!

And mentioning BLADE RUNNER, I just had an in-depth conversation with the terrific James Hong, who played Chew in BLADE RUNNER (“I only make eyes…”).

I very much want him to play the role of The Historian in SPACE COMMAND. After Comic-Con I’ll be sending him a DVD of “World Enough and Time” and the SPACE COMMAND series bible and script to further enlist his interest and participation.

On the train, I ran into my old friend Paul Dini, famed writer from BATMAN – THE ANIMATED SERIES, CLONE WARS and LOST. He and I go way back to the beginning of our careers, when we both wrote for HE MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.

We spent the entire trip catching up and talking about some of the incredible folks we’ve gotten to know in our careers and personal lives, including George Lucas, J.J. Abrams and Ray Bradbury.

Now I’m down in San Diego, getting ready for our SPACE COMMAND festivities.
We’ve got TONS of stuff happening at the Con, and a lot of it YOU can be part of, whether or not you make it down to San Diego!

First off, we’ll be posting videos of our panel and also the various friends of the project we run into. Plenty of surprises in store!

I have signings scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Doug Drexler, Iain McCaig and some of our SPACE COMMAND stars.

Our Big Comic Con SPACE COMMAND panel will be Friday night 8:30 to 9:30 PM in room 5AB, where we’ll be premiering a new trailer with spectacular images, Iain McCaig will be unveiling his incredible designs of our characters (including of Doug Jones, who will also be on the panel, along with Christina Moses and Katharine McEwan), Michael Reaves and I will be talking about coming storylines, David Raiklen will be debuting SPACE COMMAND music – and much more!

Our SPACE COMMAND Countdown Comic Con Party will be Saturday July 14th at the Embassy Suites from 6 to 9 PM, with a live feed so you can count down to the end of our campaign at midnight Eastern Standard Time!

I’ll also be on panels about self-publishing (which includes Kickstarter and SPACE COMMAND, in the broadest definition) and a memorial to my dear friend Ray Bradbury, with fellow panelists William F. Nolan, Margaret Atwood, Mark Evanier and others.

And here’s THE SUPER-COOLEST PART – THAT YOU CAN BE PART OF!

Iain McCaig had an AMAZING idea for the Comic-Con panel, a contest where one lucky fan in the audience will be chosen to be drawn by Iain as an original SPACE COMMAND alien!

Iain will design and draw this LIVE ONSTAGE and the fan will get a signed copy of the drawing and appear in the first SPACE COMMAND movie!

But I had a further thought – why not make this available to our backers too?

So for any SPACE COMMAND backer who pledges $50 or more by the end of our campaign, there will be a drawing and one of you will get to have Iain design YOU as an original SPACE COMMAND alien – and either you or the drawing (your choice) will be in the film!

Wow! If I weren’t in charge of all this, I’d be lining up to have a shot at it!

Lastly, there are only THREE DAYS left in our campaign!!!! So anything you can do to pledge, spread the word, do anything to help us get as healthy a budget as possible to make this dream come true is much appreciated.
