A little background
This book was written by Natalia Morar (my mother). She has been a teacher and and interpreter for most of her career. She grew up in Soviet Russia and has recently moved to the US. She has been a christian all her life and has faced persecution because of it. She wrote this book with the hope that these stories will be an encouragement to the readers.
Why do we need the funds?
My mother and I have spoken to a publisher and the publisher has agreed to publish my mothers book. The publisher requires the author to pay some of the publishing costs. Unfortunately we do not have the funds in order to have this book published. We need your help. The money will be given to the publisher so that we can get this book edited and published.
Here is one of the stories from the book.
BINOCULARS
“Mom, could you buy me some binoculars?”
Anyone who has a child has experienced a similar request. Most of the time parents reply and say: ‘we cannot afford it right now, could you please wait a little?’ But it is very hard for a child to understand that there is no money. Why wait? How long do I have to wait for the money to come? These are some of the questions a child wants answered. Christian parents teach their children how to pray to God. They teach them that everything belongs to Him; e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g and God can do anything if only they only asked him. So, why is there no money for purchasing binoculars?
During the summer of 2003, there was a family who lived near the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. They had an eight-year old son named Vladimir. Vladimir was absolutely sure that he needed his own pair of binoculars as soon as possible. His parents were ill and not well off financially. They were convinced that binoculars were an unnecessary expense at the moment, because of all the hardships their family was going through. His father was unemployed and they decided that the money they did have saved up should be used to buy a couple sets of new pillows and bed sheets for the bedroom, since they were on sale at the moment. The mother went ahead and ordered two sets of pillows and two sets of bed sheets.
Vladimir’s parents did not have the money to buy him the binoculars but that evening they prayed with their son and asked God’s help with getting their son a pair of binoculars. The parents thought, this prayer would be answered sometime in the future. They thought that the prayer was silly and that there are greater prayer requests than this silly one about owning a pair of binoculars. Unlike his parents Vladimir was serious about this prayer request. He prayed earnestly, because he earlier that week he read a Bible text that said “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” James 5:16.
After several weeks of waiting for the order of new bed sheets and pillows to come, Vladimir’s mother got a notice stating that they can pick up their order from their local post office. She was very happy that she finally got her package and went to the post office to pick it up. When she got the package somehow she thought that the package looked too big for what she had ordered. She brought it home and opened it. She couldn’t believe what she saw in the package. There laying on the very top was a pair of binoculars. She thought that this was a mistake, and that her order was confused with someone else’s. She was sure she had just ordered the bed sheets and the pillows. As she was thinking about how the binoculars could have got into the package she noticed a piece of paper at the very bottom of the package. She couldn’t help but smile as she read the note. The binoculars were a free token of appreciation from the company for the order that she had made. It’s not hard to imagine how happy Vladimir was when he saw those very same binoculars that he prayed for and the fact that to God no prayer is silly. He listens to all our prayers no matter how silly we think they are.
The Lord said: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” John15:7. Vladimir’s mom was regretful that she didn’t have faith like her son in trusting God with the little things in her life, things she thought were insignificant. This incident helped her faith in God grow and taught her that nothing is insignificant for God.
