Relive the smoky, after-hours world of 40’s and 50’s New York nightclubs with a new CD of jazz standards from TV's Linda Purl.
The smoky, after-hours world of New York nightclubs of the 1940s and ‘50s were filled with great music that told stories—stories of love and heartache, stories that entertained, stories that healed and helped make sense of the changing and uncertain world outside. Mostly, in those intimate clubs, the songs were like personal conversations between the singer and each individual audience member.
We’re creating a show and CD that captures this glamorous world, working title New York Nights, with the brilliant musical director Tedd Firth at the piano and under the guidance of award-winning stage director Mark Waldrop. The CD will feature classic standards that conjure the glow of swank hotspots from the Copacabana to the Blue Angel. The debut and live recording of this new club show I’m thrilled to say, will open September 30 at New York's renowned nightclub, Feinstein's at the Regency. Here’s how you can help: We're working to raise fifteen thousand so we can get the best charts, best engineer with top-of-the-line jazz musicians, and lay down live tracks for songs like “Easy Living,”“I Thought About You,”“That Old Black Magic,”“Twisted” and others.
Amid all the television work I've been doing lately on shows like True Blood, Homeland and The Office, I've been planning this new project with our creative team. We’re very excited and ready to go—and with your help, we can move forward. I so hope you’ll come on this journey with us!
