My name is Adrienne Lovette. I am an Actor,Singer and Director and am now writing a Theatre based children’s book called The Theatre Next Door. The story is about a young girl named Aphie and her brother and sister Indy and Lea, who move from their home in Florida to New York City. At first the move seemed exciting, but when they see how different it is they begin to feel home sick. Mom and Dad then have a wonderful idea of bringing the kids to see a play at the theatre next door to their apartment building. The kids love it, and leave the theatre inspired and excited and decide that they would love to write and perform in their own play. So as the story unfolds, they make their living room into a theatre and invite the entire building to see their performance. By doing this they make new friends and continue creating plays every week as well as seeing plays at the theatre next door. In the end of the story there will be a copy of Aphie’s script hand made and written by her, with instructions on how to make the costumes and sets out of everyday things, that way the readers can create the play in their own home!
I have been directing and teaching acting to children ages three to eighteen for eleven years and have been doing it for different youth programs, theatres and sleep away summer camps in Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and Eastern Europe! I feel my experience can bring a lot to this book and hopefully a lot to the children who read it.
MY GOAL:I feel this book will spark the creativity of young people, and the added bonus of the book will bring theatre and culture back into homes and schools.
One of my main goals is to give back to programs that are bringing theatre and the arts into schools and into young children’s lives. So a percentage of book sales will go to various non-profit youth theatre programs in aiding young children who cannot afford to be a part of these programs but have passion for the arts.
Because I am self-publishing the book, I need some help financing the project. Self-publishing is not cheap, so I am asking everyone to please help bring this project to life by donating anything you can! I thank you with all my heart!
FIRST BOOK: The Theatre Next Door. English version cost $5,000 to publish, Spanish version cost $5,000 to publish.
SECOND BOOK: (Working Title) Shakespeare Next Door- Aphie, Indy and Lea see their first Shakespeare play at The Theatre Next Door, and decide to recreate the play by writing their version and performing it for their friends and family. There will be a copy of Aphie's play in the back of the book.
THIRD BOOK: (Working Title) Musical's Next Door- Aphie, Indy and Lea see a musical at The Theatre Next Door and decide to create their own musical! In the back of the book their will be a copy of the script PLUS a CD with their own songs both with vocal and non vocals so they can be performed!
The money that I receive for the first book will go to editing, marketing, e-books, hard copies, website, illustrations, merchandise and more!
