Partnering with tribes in Eastern Africa, Teach Twice will create children’s books capturing their traditional narratives and artwork.
Project Mission: Using a community's own culture to empower itself
- Create/market an educational children’s book that is both profitable and informative, containing traditional writings and drawings from Eastern Africa
- Cycle the profits from the book sales back into Uganda, working to construct a much needed secondary school allowing children to continue on their educational endeavors
Thus, one Teach Twice book enhances the education of two children and two communities that are worlds apart, yet connected through a shared commitment to education, and a desire to learn from books and from each other.
Partnering with tribes in Eastern Africa, Teach Twice will create children’s books specific to this area. Empowering the people within these tribes, the books will be written and drawn by members of the local communities. Each will contain three to five narratives along with complementary hand drawn artwork. Not only will these books provide an educational tool to be used by parents and schools in the global marketplace, but profits will also directly benefit the place from which the stories came. All profits from Uganda's Teach Twice children’s books will go towards funding a secondary school where post-primary schools have not previously existed. Secondary school graduates are the future of Uganda: they are the leaders, the doctors, the teachers, and the writers. Listen to their story.
So why do we seek your help? Your help is necessary to spark the cycle of self empowerment. Money is needed for publishing these stories, which will include administrative costs, traveling, and the publication of these books. We have already gathered the stories and artwork from tribes in Southern Uganda and are compiling the narratives into a cohesive children's book. With your help, Teach Twice is confident we can achieve our goal.
