Story Behind the Brand?
I'm Harrison Bruhn, 18-years-old, and the founder of Milk N Cookies, New York, a streetwear company I started when I was sixteen.
Even as a little kid, I was independent and creative. I would sit in my room for hours building colossal cities out of Legos. At the start of high school—when Legos no longer held my interest--I came up with an idea to start a rap group with a couple friends. We came up with the name, “The Gentlemen’s Society.” My role was meeting facilitator and my house became the place where everyone came over for recording sessions, video games, and my Jewish mother's home-cooked meals. Although we had crazy amounts of fun, God were we bad. But, being kids, we thought we were so good that we needed shirts made to flaunt around. I designed them with a simple foil text. But the group broke up before we could even hand out the shirts.
After making a fool of myself in the Hip Hop world, I did discover that I liked making t-shirts. I'd been interested in streetwear since middle school when I found this online company, Karmaloop, the “mothership” for streatwear brands. I remember minimizing the shirt I wanted on my screen so that it was impossible for my nice, generous Jewish mother to see it clearly. “Of course, Bubula!” she said. She had no idea she'd just paid for a piece of clothing with an obscenely large, naked girl on the front. Even when she did figure it out, she was pretty chill. But I did get in trouble with all the the lunch monitors, teachers and the school resource officers—guys who did nothing but tackle kids and double dip (that's a whole other story). Even so, I was hooked on in-your-face tees. I especially liked how people reacted to them.
I guess this is why I was always the class clown. I liked getting people to react. But being the class clown—and having other interests—well, it wasn't exactly a formula for academic success. My grades started slipping and then I got myself into some stupid s#!@!, and before I knew it, at the end of the 10th grade, I had moved to a separate school, a private school.
That summer, my mom and step-dad gave me a choice. Sort of. They offered to send me to the Woodstock Day School, a local private school. I'd heard stories about WDS. It was supposed to be kind of a hippy joke place. And, worst of all, it had only 200 kids! That's right. Kindergarten through 12th grade! In my high school, I was one of 2,000! So I went, after being guilted everyday...
What I ended up getting from spending the last two years at WDS was breathing room—I didn't have to worry about the other 1,999 kids--a high school diploma, and the motivation to get serious. Now I'm ready to take Milk N Cookies to the next level with a little “Kickstart” from you guys!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The greatest risk in this project would be to spend all my time trying to complete this project, but not getting enough backers. The Challenges that come after the project is completed consist of:
First: Printing designs on the shirts by a local screen printer
Second: Printing the tags on the inside of the shirt by a local screen printer
Third: Buying new woven labels from a local embroidery company
Fourth: Sewing on the labels by a local seamstress
Fifth: Mailing out garments to customers
This will be our third line so I know exactly where to get my shirts printed and how I need them done. The process will be very time consuming especially being a freshman in college. A task that I'm looking forward to completing.
