The War of the Pacific was a 19th century South American conflict fought between the former allied nations of Chile, Peru and Bolivia. Disputes over regional resources would soon turn the South American continent into a war-zone.
We invite you to join us in bringing a range of figures to gaming tables, collectors and military enthusiasts the world over to relive this memorable but often overlooked 19th century conflict.
In conjunction with Partizan Press and their book Uniforms of the Pacific War 1879 - 1884 The Land Campaigns, we offer you the chance to show your support for a range of figures.

For those of you who haven't already seen it yet...
We had one of sculptors work over-time and...
We promised you a prototype but we thought one wasn't enough so we had two of our sculptors work overtime for you guys and we went 3 better. Without further delay we're proud to present a Peruvian Infantryman, a Peruvian Officer and a Peruvian Musician.
These are trial sculpts but we hope they give you a good idea what the finished range would look like. We really tried to capture the character of the plates, designs and conflict did we do a good job?
We love them here but it's up to you guys if you want this range to see the light of day. I personally think it would be a shame to shelve such a beautiful range but get posting blogging and let us know what you think...

The design journey blog...
Added 11/12/12: Because we don't want our Kickstarter to remain static we have been searching the web reading your blogs and message-board posts looking for your input and ideas. (Thank you guys for everything so far.)
We want our Kickstarter to evolve and we want you guys to run the show. If there is anything you think we haven't covered or anything you want to see more of let us know and we really will try our best to cover everything.
Due to popular demand we thought we would include more of our designs and sketches for the figures.
We can confirm!
The figures will be sculptured from these designs & sketches (this is just a sample of the complete range of designs and sketches we have done), and will initially include Officers, Musicians, Standard Bearers and Infantrymen (for each of the three nations). With more to follow if there is enough interest.
Infantrymen will come in a choice of 3 poses firing, marching and advancing.
We will be putting up more of the range's sketches and design art in the near future.
Obviously we don't have any of the sculpts to show you yet as that would mean putting the range into production and for us to do that we need you to get pledging!
We hope with enough support to cast a prototype figure to show you guys what the finished product will look like...so get pledging and keep checking back here for more updates.

So, who are we?
We are Matchlock Miniatures, a division of Miniature Figurines (which is the oldest manufacturer of miniatures for collectors, wargamers, and role playing in the world). Matchlock Miniatures hope to bring you the highest quality toy soldiers money can buy at a price you can afford.

Why are we running a Kickstarter?
As you can imagine, here at Matchlock Miniatures we often get asked for figures from conflicts that nobody produces a range of figures for, or where there are very few figures available. Rather than just discard these requests we do take note! We currently have about 10 new ranges that we'd like to put into production but obviously we can't do them all.
Although we are an established company, we saw Kickstarter as a unique opportunity for us to offer you the chance to support the figures you want and for us to release figures from some of the more obscure wars throughout history that we wouldn't be able to release any other way.
This Kickstarter offers you the chance (for the first time ever) to support the release of one of our ranges of figures, but it also allows us the chance to gauge what support there is out there for a range of figures from the War of the Pacific.
This is an exciting chance for you the enthusiast to shape the destiny of a range of figures - it really is up to you! We'll be asking for your input to make this our most exciting, highly detailed and modern range yet with the hope of laying foundations for other releases in the future.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Since we' re already an established company and have been casting figures for years there is no financial risk for any of our backers. We have released many Miniature lines in our time and we are well versed in releasing figures to market. However, with any project it may face challenges and we think it would be beneficial to tell you a little more about the project and the steps we have already taken to ensure that our Kickstarter runs as smoothly as possible.
As we mentioned earlier we have started planning this project months in advance and already have the designs for the miniatures in the range.
We have an accomplished team of 2 sculptors to split the work load this will make sure that the miniatures are of the highest quality while avoiding delays. In the event of something tragic happening to one of our sculptors (we hope it doesn't but you never know) we also have a back-up sculptor waiting in the wings.
The miniatures will be cast by our permanent team of 4 Casters, who will also put the miniatures through our rigorous quality control procedure (if we wouldn't have it in our army nor will you).
In the unlikely event that there are any delays during the creation process all backers will be informed immediately. From the moment you pledge you are a member of our team and you'll be treated like one.
We have an expert picking and packing team who will pack your items like they are our own. While we will do everything in our power to avoid shipping delays even we have to admit that the postal service may let us down. Rest assured we will keep you constantly informed with the progress of the project and if items are delayed in the post (or there are any other problems) we have our head office online sales team (lead by moi) who pride ourselves on problem-solving and exceptional customer service.
We hope this helps convince you to support our project and play an indispensable part in launching a new range of miniatures.

You'll be able to choose from all three armies involved in the conflict. That is Peru, Bolivia and Chile, however, a platoon (for sanities sake) can only be made up of 25 men from one nation.

Each platoon of 25 men "can" include up to 1 standard bearer, 1 officer and 1 musician (of the nationality of that platoon). We say "can" because if you don't want them you can replace them with regular infantry the choice is yours.

When choosing a Captain level pledge you are allowed 4 platoons, those 4 platoons can consist of 100 men from any of the three nations, however as stated above each of those platoons can only be made up of one nation and is only allowed 1 standard bearer, 1 officer and 1 musician.

Each Platoon will consist of 4 different sculpts That is the Officer, Musician, Standard Bearer and one choice of Infantrymen pose from Firing, Marching and Advancing.

Sadly we don't have any plans for releasing those at the moment. However, if the Kickstarter is successful and we are able to launch the complete range we would like to release those to complement the range at a later date.

Yes, the mounted general will be of the nationality of your Platoon on pledges of Soldado and Coronel, on all other pledges the mounted General will be of a nationality of your choice.

We may be a big company but unfortunately we can't paint them all for you. All of the miniatures will be supplied unpainted. EXCEPT ON PLEDGES OF CORONEL AND GENERAL DE EJERCITO WHICH WILL BE PROFESSIONALLY PAINTED BY ONE OF OUR PAINTING STUDIOS!
