About this project
My project is a novel in stories all either set in or stemming from the 1995 heat wave which ravaged Chicago and the Midwest. The stories are also linked with common characters and scenes.
This was my MFA thesis and my faculty readers all hailed the individual stories as well as the scope of the book itself. I am currently adding to the manuscript to make it more marketable and also for artistic reasons. I feel there are a few more things to say. More characters need to be heard.
My goal here is to add to the literature of that period, as very little has been said about it. 1995 was an interesting time in our evolution as a society - the internet was coming of age, the stock market was starting to take off, and we were ending the 20th Century. This book shows characters coping with their personal struggles against the backdrop of a city in crisis.
I hope you will help fund my efforts, as I feel this is an important piece to add to the canon. One professor called it "smartly written" one of the longer pieces was dubbed, "sweeping." After a public reading, a much-adored poet told me the work was, "wonderful." I think you will agree and you will be proud to have been a part of this project.
