"Hearts and Minds" is a short film which explores the psychological complexities of both war and life at home.

Hearts and Minds is a narrative film about EDDIE PITT, a soldier returning from the war in Afghanistan. The story takes place in two time periods, the present here in the United States and the past back in the Afghanistan war zone as tries to regain balance in his life that will never be the same again.

Manaal Khan is an international student from the Middle East at UCLA Film School where she has recently received a Bachelor of Arts in Film and TV Production.She is dedicated to telling stories that make a social impact and bridge gaps between different cultures and subcultures in society.


I am very proud to be affiliated with a film that reaches a global audience to make a positive social difference. Hearts and Minds isn't just for American war veterans. Nor is it for civilians in Afghanistan. It is for human beings to understand and relate how we are really meant to be...in peace - Manaal

The money raised for this project will go into THREE areas.
Pre production support will cover promotional videos, location scouting and equipment deposits.
Production support will cover portions of the cast/ crew meals and transport, production and costume design, and equipment rental beyond what we have to allow the film to achieve its full visual potential. This film has a surreal psychological aspect to it so there is a necessity for some special effects such as use of green screen and post visual effects for both the body of the narrative and the title sequence.

But the majority of the funds raised, along with production, will go to distribution of the film here in the United States and world wide. It will be entered into festivals all over the world and translated into various languages as this film really is a humanistic global cause in itself. It has a purpose that has the potential to resonate and shift social thinking in a positive way.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

With making a film there are always risks. Locations go wrong, actors get sick, equipment fails. But I've been here before. And more importantly, my crew has been here before. We've had to overcome many different types of obstacles and of everyone on the team, my Assistant Director, Doug, is most experienced.

Last night I held a big production meeting. This was a chance to hear the script read out loud, meet the department heads, and get everyone on the same page for the actual production. We are ready.
