About this project
My KIckstarter project is the recording and release my first professional-quality CD, titled Mountains of Dreams. I am a singer-songwriter with a bluesy, jazzy, rootsy style; I have performed for many years, but this is my first professional recording.
I play an unusual hybrid instrument called the dojo (dobro-banjo); it looks like a resonator guitar but has the 5-string neck of a banjo. My vocal style is a mix of influences, with some people saying my voice reminds them of Louis Armstrong, Leon Redbone, or Tom Waits. I am, of course, flattered by such comparisons, but hope the entire package is unique.
The CD consists of 13 songs, with all but one being original compositions. The recording and mixing was done at Byrd Cage Studio in South Austin, with Tommy Byrd engineering and co-producing with me. The recording features many well-known Austin musicians, including the fabulous violinist Warren Hood and incomparable clarinetist Stanley Smith, of the Jazz Pharaohs and Asylum Street Spankers, and half a dozen other outstanding players.
I am raising funds to complete the recording and manufacturing process. This includes mastering of the mixed recording, the graphic design and cover artwork for the CD, and the manufacture and distribution of the recording, as well as marketing the music so that it can get radio and Internet airplay. Be sure to visit my Reverbnation webpage for samples of the music from the CD at www.reverbnation.com/tracyweinberg.

Tracy Weinberg took up the banjo when he was 16 because everybody played guitar. Now he plays the dojo (a resonator-banjo) because it gets him places banjos can't go (and it fits his style of music better). An educator by trade and a bluesy singer-songwriter by passion, at the ripe old age of 56, he is releasing his first CD.
