Celebrating its 13th year, Congo Square Theatre is an ensemble dedicated to artistic excellence. By producing definitive and transformative theatre spawned from the African Diaspora, as well as other world cultures, Congo Square Theatre Company seeks to establish itself as an institution of multicultural theatre.

Of the more than 200 theater companies in Chicago, Congo Square is only one of 4 theaters that produces work reflective of the African- American perspective. We are authentic first voice theatre and are committed to telling our stories in a way that only we can.   

For more than a decade, Congo Square has not only succeeded in bringing cultural diversity to the theatrical landscape of the community, but we’ve also helped to employ countless actors, writers, directors and designers of color as well.   At a time when mainstream theatres are co-opting our work and artists because it is fashionable, supporting a culturally specific organization like Congo Square Theatre, that has diversity inherent in its mission, is all the more crucial.
