Alex, your book would have been on my list regardless of the artist. I appreciate your difficulties in separating backers into the patient and the disappointed, but I am in the first group and don't require any refund pending your decision on the future of Ashes.
You have my very best wishes for that future.

      Dear Alex,
I'm sorry about the drama, and I know you're probably pretty overwhelmed right now with everything that's happened these last few months. I just want to let you know that I really hope you don't give up on making this book. You raised a lot of money with all of your hard work, and even -he- still says you wrote a great script. I know you'll find a great artist willing to work with you to finish it the way you know it needs to look. I'll gladly wait as long as it takes, because I believe in you and I believe in this project.
      Best Wishes,
      Ned

Alex, take some time off the project, get rejuvenated, extend your personal deadline for a new artist and we'll still be here when you get back ready to read your kick@ss story.
I wish you strenght and all the best.

I have only a vague concept of how difficult this has been for you Alex. It sounds like it sucked pretty hard. Only thing I do know is that I want to read Ashes. And, since you wrote it, I'm going to assume you want to hold the thing in your hands. You can get this done. I believe you can. Good luck.

What a shame it had to come to this, after reading what Jimmy had to sat on The Beat he comes off like a person trying to save himself .

If this book can go forward with a new artist i'm all in. If not, i hope you find it in yourself to not get too despondent and give up on it.

Best of wishes form me to you, and this project.

Hopefully you will find a new artist, as I backed the book knowing you wrote Smoke. I sincerely hope I don't get a refund and receive a finished product. I truly appreciate all the transparency on your end.

It is a shame that you and Mr. Broxton had to part ways. His art was half the reason I backed the project.

But your writing is the other half. So I'm sticking with you. Best of luck on the new artist hunt, and hang in there.

Ayul -- not Barbados territory (that was a joke, anyway), but it sure is Give The Artist A Raise, & Get Valentine Trade Printed territory!

Martin -- most definitely. I'm planning a less ambitious Kickstarter in March for future episodes of Valentine, with the printed book as reward. Margaret the Damned, now I can get back to writing it... once it's finished and I have an artist attached, we'll figure out what the next steps are.

I look forward to receiving it :D. Since I've never read anything from either of you other than some of VALENTINE, this is pretty much a gamble. I have faith in you guys XD. You can thank Julian Darius, of sequart.com (great comics criticism and essays site) for posting a link to this on facebook. In case you want a general idea of who's reading your book, I'm in high school.

Hello Redheaded Pharmacist! Yes, publishing right now is a frustrating situation. Not only is the industry experiencing cataclysmic change, the economy is in the pooper right now so nobody wants to take risk. And, frankly, a lot of people write comics. Many of them have much more titles published than me, and have sold many more books. So, to Kickstarter I must go. Thank you for your support!

Question from a new backer for Alex: Why is the publishing environment so difficult for comics? You'd think that someone with your track record would be able to get a better deal from a traditional publisher and not need a public funding project to get this book done but a 50% cut just to publish a trade is ridiculous in my book! Good luck to you and Jimmy on this project.

Hi Courtland! Thank you, what a nice thing to say! I very much want to finish Valentine. In a perfect world, we'll raise enough to make Ashes AND to publish the print edition of Valentine... then hopefully Valentine can self fund (book sales fund future digital episodes).
