Update #19: WE'RE GOING INTO THE STUDIO THIS WEEK!!!
YES! The day has FINALLY come! The studio time is booked, the team is assembled, and best of all, I get to use all of the Kickstarter money before the government can get their hands on it!
Ha-HA!
But wait! It get's better! My very favorite person, JACK CONTE is going to be producing the album! (I'm going to just stop using exclamation points now. Please assume that every sentence is followed by a trail of exclamation points.)
So here's how it's gonna go down: I've written fifteen songs and we plan to record all of them in ten days at an incredible studio in Sonoma. We'll be working with a very talented and accomplished engineer, by the name of Oz Fritz. He's worked on numerous amazing records, including Tom Wait's Bone Machine AND Lauren O'Connell's upcoming album. The drummer is also one of Wait's go-to-guys. His name is Stephen Hodges, and he's got grooves that make the Grand Canyon look flat. Was that a lame thing to say? I feel like it was...
ANYhoo...The extraordinarily talented Ryan Lerman will be on electric guitar and other stringed instruments. You may recognize him from Pomplamoose's cover of Sandman. You may also have witnessed his great skills on stage if you've been to one of our live shows (or one of BEN FOLD'S live shows...) And David Piltch will be playing the upright bass. Aside from being a really cool guy, he is also k.d. lang's bassist and has played on a plethora of incredible albums (Sam Phillip's Boot and a Shoe is one of my personal favorites). There will also be strings, horns and organ on several of the songs, and we have some amazing people lined up for those as well.
So yeah...I'm pretty stoked about my band.
I'm also pretty stoked about the film crew that will be documenting the whole thing. Eric Kallevig will be directing the shoot with his cinematographer Mark Gamsey. They've got great cameras, lights and most importantly IDEAS that will make these VideoSongs stand out from anything I've ever done before.
There's more, but I think that's enough excitement for one day.
Oh wait. One more thing. Just because we're recording in December doesn't mean that the album will be out in January. There will be a period of post-production and video-editing once the tracking is finished, so I don't expect the album to be released until April...
The GOOD news is that I will have more time to fulfill the thousands of Kickstarter pledges, so if you pledged for a VideoSong cover, I'll be putting that up on YouTube before the album is released.
As always, you can contact me with questions or concerns by writing me a message on Kickstarter. If you're not following me on Twitter you should, because I'll be posting lots of updates and pictures during the recording process.
Thank you again to everyone for your patience and investment in this project. I can't believe that I'll be watching my dreams unfold THIS WEEK!!! There I go again with the exclamation points...I should quit while I'm ahead.
Still burgeoning with joy and gratitude, (yes, burgeoning is a strange word...)

Update #18: October MADNESS!!!!
Gosh, it's been a while. I APOLOGIZE for the silence. I swear it's not because I've been skiing or shopping or contemplating my navel this whole time. I've been hard at work figuring out all of the logistics that will go into this album, AND I've been working on Pomplamoose related things as well.
We've got a busy month ahead. Next week I'll be heading to Nashville to meet with an incredible producer (and some other good music industry folk). The hope is that he will be producing my album early January, which will give me some time to get everything in order with the musicians and the studio and the SONGS most of all!
Sorry about all the secrecy. I am DYING to tell you the names of all the people I'll be recording with, but for dumb not-wanting-to-jinx-myself-reasons, I'm waiting until we've all made a blood pact, at which point there will be NO TURNING BACK.
As soon as I get back from Nashville, Jack and I will be jumping on a plane to AUSTRIA. What?!?! Yes. Austria. We'll be filming a stop-motion commercial there for a couple days. There will unfortunately be no time for gallivanting or sight seeing in Vienna, because we'll be flying straight back here to practice for our WEST COAST TOUR! From the 21st to the 29th we'll be playing LA, Santa Barbara, Seattle, Portland and San Francisco!!!
Ah, and lest I forget, before ANY of this happens, Pomplamoose will be releasing a new VideoSong this week.
So I just wanted to let you know, the reason I haven't been updating you is because A. I'm super busy with Pomplamoose stuff right now, and B. Nothing is set in stone for my album yet. That said, I believe that there will be many happy things to announce in the near post-October future (or maybe sooner if you're following me on twitter...)
Still thinking of you,
-Nataly

Seriously. You posted here 20 hours ago regarding your tour. I read about it 20 minutes ago, and you Seattle date is already sold out. Deep sigh. Have to admit, I said a bad word when I I saw that. Maybe next time. Can't wait for the new album!

I don't want to speak with the voice of all fans; but now I'm contemplating your navel.
But seriously, I don't think anyone feels abandoned, we know "recording a new record" is not without difficulty or time investment. We do love the update though. :D -
caroline on October 30
Austria?! My home!! What commercial were you filming btw? Too bad you had no time here to do some sightseeing or play live somewhere :(. Please visit again soon, I'd love to hear you play live! All the best to you, can't wait for the album...

Update #17: The next step...
Update #16: In shock.
You did this. You have changed my life forever. You have changed the course of HISTORY dammit! One HUNDRED...THOUSAND DOLLARS????
This is how it happened. Jack and I finished watching Parks and Recreation at 12:16, refreshed my kickstarter page, screamed (simultaneously) and then hugged each other like two giddy school girls. Since then, we've been mostly silent, inwardly contemplating the gravity of this enormous sum.
I can't believe it. I CAN, but I can't. One hundred thousand dollars. Yes, the future is bright, but right now...the present is as good as it gets.
All my love and gratitude,
-Nataly

a silly question on September 6
Well, $94K anyway. KS/Amazon keep 10%. But you still earned every penny, especially with Monster Mask! I hope you don't mind I saved that youtube video to my harddrive. :shifty-eyes: Congrats!

Update #15: It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a...Nataly Dawn?
Yes it is!
I just released a new song on my youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Z7xceSLy4&feature=channel_video_title
It's Superman's Song, by the Crash Test Dummies - a request from one of my kickstarter backers! Well, two technically. THANK YOU MICHAEL AND CANDACE CLARKE!!!! (Coincidence that their last name is Clarke? I think not...)
So, enjoy, and thank you again for your overwhelming generosity! You have my word that I will make the BEST album that I can possibly make.
Eternally grateful,
-Nataly

Will Taylor on September 4
You and your music are worth every penny, Ms. Dawn. Plus I had to get my hands on some swag with your handwritten lyrics on it.. : ) Wish I could've pledged 10x as much.
Endure, succeed, and in all things, radiate. You can never know how many lives you've touched (and continue to touch).

You're going to hit 5 TIMES your goal! It's amazing! I couldn't be happier for you Nataly.
I think we fans are almost as excited as you must be!

Update #14: EIGHTY THOUSAND!!!!!!!!!...with an EIGHT!!!!!
That's $80,000 (in case I wasn't clear).
There are probably words that exist in the English language to express the gratitude that I'm feeling right now, but I can't seem to find any of them. All I can say is thank you, and that whatever becomes of me, I will owe it all to you. So please accept my enormous gratitude for all of your support, for your excessive generosity and for your kind words. I hope that I will have the pleasure of meeting each one of you someday.
In the meantime, here's something to look forward to: I will be releasing another videosong (for one of the people who pledged for a cover) within the next couple days. I've been working on it virtually non-stop over the past week and a half, and it's really different from anything I've ever released on my channel. I hope that you will like it even more than I have enjoyed making it.
ALSO, I hope to announce my plans for recording within the next couple weeks, so stay tuned for that.
Again, thank you so much for everything you do.
All my love,
-Nataly
Update #13: WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!?!
This is NUTS! Just TOTALLY, COMPLETELY NUTS!!!
I had SMORES for dinner!!!
Oh. And also, we just passed 300%.
THREE HUNDRED PERCENT?!?
Yes. That is what I said.
I'm going to go digest that...WITH the smores...
Somehow I feel like "thank you" won't cut it at this point, but it's really all I have to say. So, thank you. Thank you all a million times, and again, thank you.

Update #12: New Pomplamoose VideoSong posted!
To all of you who feared that my solo album implied the END of Pomplamoose, REST AT EASE!
We just posted a videosong (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBJLAFTlGKg) which MEANS that I also just fulfilled my first kickstarter pledge!
Here's how it happened. Ron Weiner pledged for me to cover a song of his choice. He (half-joking) suggested one that he had written (you can see the original video at http://ronweiner.tumblr.com), a charming and very funny song inspired by a monster mask.
I loved it right away and decided to give it a go. No more than a few minutes after hearing me chug away at the organ, Jack INSISTED to be a part of the project. I reluctantly (but not really) agreed to embark on a Pomplamoose collaboration, and since then, neither of us have been able to get the damn song out of our heads.
I do however need to CLARIFY something, since I took on this song with Jack knowing very well that it might cause some confusion for people who ALSO want a Pomplamoose cover and not just a Nataly Dawn cover.
To those of you who are in that boat and are considering pledging, all I can promise you is my own hard work and dedication to the song of your choice. As for Jack...I can't promise I'll be able to woo him twice.
Thank you again for your support, and I hope you enjoy the song!

You can say that hard work, dedication, passion, talent, imagination, sense of humor, panache, and a great heart like yours provides us with the gift of your voice for all of us to enjoy. For me and I hope for others... that's all the thanks I need. Yet, if that is toooo corny, how about a song saying thank you in many languages! ¡Gracias! Grazie, Danke, Thanks, Spasibo... Crap too corny been there too... ok. I stick to first heartfelt submission. YAY FOR YOU!!!!! Don't lose that humor and uniqueness.

Update #11: WOAH WOAH WOAH
My album funding just passed the 250% mark which is CRAZY, and once again I cannot thank you enough for your officially excessive generosity.
As an expression of my gratitude, within the next couple days I will be uploading a new videosong, which I am EXTREMELY excited about for several SECRET reasons that I cannot disclose right now. What I CAN say is that it's fun, and that you will like it.
Once again, thank you, thank you and THANK YOU for all of your support :)

Update #10: 200%?!?!?!
Hello dear people who are making my dreams come true. We just passed 200% or FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS which means that you are officially the most generous fans that anyone has ever had. I feel so fortunate and blessed to be making an album for you.
This week, I will release another videosong (probably a cover that someone pledged for!) I'm very excited about it. So stay tuned for more music and THANK YOU once again for being so wonderful to me!

David Towle on August 5, 2011
Nataly I'm coming up on a year as a fan, you are still the most beautiful woman I've ever seen and singer I've ever heard. I must have watched your Mark Keller show a hundred times! Since you may end up over $100,000 I recommend you use some of the extra to hire a video editor so you can painlessly make lots of solo and Pomplamoose videos of your upcoming original songs! Hopefully you're keeping Ryan on the team, he's great too!

Update #9: Last two clothing items reduced!
In case you're interested, the blue and polka-dotted dress are still available. The blue dress is from Dying to Live and Always in the Season, and the polka-dotted one is from the Angry Birds cover. They're both size 6 and freshly dry-cleaned (in case you wanted to wear one to that upcoming event where everyone will be dressing up as youtubers. Because people do that, right?)

-
Charlie on July 28, 2011
Sorry, neither dress will fit me. Anyway, my GF would want to know why I have a dress that's not hers in my closet. You got any used Levis, 38 waist?
-
Tom Smith on July 28, 2011
Hows about I give YOU something to wear in one of your videos. I'm thinking a brand new IN-N-OUT Burger T-Shirt from Texas....(They just opened 3 stores in Texas.) Us folks in Texas would be very proud....what size do ya need?

Update #8: Message me if you have any questions

-
Oliver Hickman on July 29, 2011
If you are really do mean about "WHATEVER" then here it goes: what is a good French language podcast? I've tried RFI's Journal en français facile, mais il n'est pas facile! An more introductory level french international news podcast would be ideal (probably too specific, ain't it?).

Update #7: New song on youtube!
Just wanted to let you know that I uploaded a new song to my channel!
It's a Billie Holiday cover, because I've received so many requests to
do one of her tunes. Click here to see it on youtube!
Enjoy!
Update #6: In case you were wondering...
Here is what the t-shirts and posters will look like!
The shirts will be "alternative apparel" (so very comfy and soft and not made with child labor), and the posters are really nice, thick 12.25"x17.25" recycled matte. I have to give credit to my designers here! The t-shirt design was by the all-powerful Colin Wright (http://colinismy.name/about/) and the photography and poster layout were a product of the extraordinarily gifted Jeff Marini (http://jeffreymarini.com/). I love all of their work and highly recommend that you check it out too!

Charlie on July 25, 2011
If you tell us when you'll be in LA, we can email-bomb the talk shows, urging them to book you.
-
Mike Dawson on July 26, 2011
I love the T-shirt (and also don't hate money LOL). The poster is cute, but I can't picture you "on the street". That's a good thing, right?
-
David Towle on August 5, 2011
Nataly you make a lousy hooker (appearance wise), and that is a compliment! You've probably never even seen one to know how they dress, have you?
-
Update #5: T-SHIRT and DOWNLOAD available for $40!
So I've had some requests from people who wanted t-shirts but not a physical album, and I wanted to make that an option! Now you can get the special edition t-shirt and a download of the album before it's released for $40!
If you've already pledged $75 for the t-shirt, signed albums ("Her Earlier Stuff" and the upcoming one) and a download, and you don't want hard copies of the albums, please feel free to decrease your pledge.
I will be uploading an image of the t-shirt design (by Colin Wright www.exilelifestyle.com) to the kickstarter update page either tomorrow or the day after!
Thank you again for your support!
