INTRODUCTION

My name is Eli Linnetz, the writer and director of Afterglow.  I have been fortunate to have experienced many aspects of theatre, filmmaking, and TV at such a young age. Now with an amazing crew to support me, I'm ready to make my first short-film, Afterglow. This film follows a young boy's mysterious journey through the darkest of hours -- the night. Enjoy!

SYNOPSIS                                                          

El PASO - 1962                                                                   

Three Doo-Wop Girls guide us through the vast emptiness of an El Paso nightscape. They serve as our narrators as we stumble upon a diner, shining the only light visible for miles. It’s Jet’s 17th birthday, and his girlfriend, Kitty, has thrown him a surprise party. The diner, however, is the last place on earth Jet wants to be. After seeing a provocative ad in the local newspaper, Jet calls to meet up with Lady, a prostitute, at a nearby motel. He ends up leaving his friends behind and hitches a ride with a traveling salesman. When Jet finally meets with Lady, he learns they have a lot more in common than he thought... 

While there are a lot of dark and intense moments in the film, it is full of singing, dancing, fun and whimsy!  

WHERE'S ALL THIS MONEY GOING?

There are many costs involved in making Afterglow -- an intricate period piece.  Here are just a few things we need money for...

Remember, every dollar we spend will be seen on screen. 

SHOOTING ON FILM - In order to create a feeling of nostalgia, we want to shoot on actual film which is costly. This will allow us to engage in an art-form that is quickly  dying; most of the industry has moved to digital. The film will be shot in color. 

Panavision loved the project so much they are giving us 16mm cameras to use for shooting. This will give Afterglow a unique and nostalgic feel, perfect for the film!  

LOCATIONS - It's extremely important to film Afterglow in the middle of nowhere. This sets a blank canvas for the story to unfold upon. Because of this, bringing an entire 70 person crew (including all of our extras) to the middle of the desert will definitely be costly. 

WARDROBE - We will be working closely with American Vintage to ensure all wardrobe used in the film is actually from the time period, including undergarments seen in the scene with Lady. 

PRODUCTION DESIGN - In order to bring an authenticity to Jet and his world,  our art department team is using real props from the time period.

MUSIC - In order to use music from 1962 (the music that inspired the film) we need to receive licensing which can be expensive.  

USING INDUSTRY PREOFESSIONALS - While many students from USC are involved in the project, much of our crew are Hollywood professionals...
