About this project

About this project

Health care reform is not just a national issue: It’s as local as the hospital or medical center in your community. While all want to deliver the best care possible, a few are getting extraordinary results. Their stories can inspire changes that can help improve care where we live and work.

I want to tell those stories in a book called The Road to World-Class Health Care. I’ll visit 20 to 25 world-class hospitals and medical centers across the country to discover how they got started on their journeys, how they overcame obstacles, their best practices and outstanding results, and how every hospital and medical center in America can improve performance. (Feel free to recommend a world-class hospital or medical center for the project by clicking on the “Comments” tab at the top of this page.)

I’ll visit these role-model organizations during a road trip. I'll bring along a camera so I can capture the amazing things I find. I’ll share video, photos, and audio recordings with my backers on a new website I’ll create just for this project. While the book is the final outcome, the lessons learned will be shared in multiple formats throughout the research process.

Join the Journey

I need your help to make this project happen. Please take a minute to review the rewards listed on the right, then click on the green “Back This Project” box to lend your support. For those of you new to Kickstarter, if the goal for the project is not met, the project will not proceed and nothing will be charged to your credit card. If the goal is met, your credit card will be charged the amount you pledged on the day funding ends. If you prefer, you can donate and choose no reward. You can also donate as much as you want and choose the reward level you want.

I’ll use the funds to pay for the road trip including lodging, food, and gas; for the website and software to edit and post audio, video, and photo files; and to help pay bills during the research phase so I can focus all of my energy on getting everything I need to write a great book.

Seeking support through Kickstarter is also a good way to find out whether enough people value the project to make it worthwhile, since the book that comes out of it will have to sell if I’m going to get paid for writing it. I’m willing to take that chance because I believe it can play an important role in the ongoing transformation of health care. I hope you agree by backing this project.

If you work in the health care industry, consider making your organization a partner in this project at the higher reward levels, which have been designed to support organizational improvement efforts in 2012 and beyond.

Thanks!
