About this project

The Soquel Street Bridge in Santa Cruz has 89 picture frame indentations on the cement supports of the light posts. Mission Hill Middle School students will design and create mosaics to fill these spaces under the direction of local artist/teacher Kathleen Crocetti.

Kathleen facilitated a similar project for the Water Street bridge last spring, you can visit the Santa Cruz City Public Art Web site: http://santacruzpublicart.com/plants-and-animals-of-the-san-lorenzo-river-watershed/ to see photos of that project. You can see students in action by following the link to TV News story on the project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kdez2M_6H9w&feature=fvsr and and you can see what other kinds of art activities Kathleen is up to at her web site:   http://www.kathleencrocetti.com/Kathleen%20Crocetti.html

Connected as Kathleen Crocetti (410 friends)

I’m a conceptual artist with many skill sets and divergent interests. Lately I’ve been focused on Site Specific Community Based Installations which are a combination of art and community building. A few of this things I’m really good at are distilling complex social issues into visual metaphors that are readable and engaging which creates situations that bring people together and fosters dialog. I prefer designing works that involve multiples, because they invite individuals to participate on a very small scale and to choose how much they will participate. I believe that every person has the ability to create, I use my creativity designing interactive art works that empower people and nurtures’ their inner artist, acknowledging that their contribution is in integral part of a larger whole and has meaning for the community.

Besides all that, I like to dance, ride my bike, laugh, play, and hang out with teenagers.
