The story

How far will a cowboy go for a girl and a horse? Follow a drifting cowboy, a drifting horse, and the cowgirl that brings them together in the wide open prairies and hills of western South Dakota. Our goal is an authentic depiction of the genuine West with true cowboys and cowgirls and real ranches. 

A little about us 

The cast and crew of "Drifter" were brought together by a shared love of the West and its people. Cory and Blue Borton work on a cattle ranch and train horses. Stoyan Lucey is a horse trainer and farrier. Bruce Borton was raised on a ranch and lives in Wyoming. Claudia Ogilvie is retired from riding broncs and trains rodeo horses. Bruce Frye is a man of many talents from Wyoming. We are proud of our western heritage and in gratitude we wish to share it with you!

What we need from you

We have filmed 90% of our story, with April 30, 2012 being our goal for completion of filming. That is when we need your help, to cover the costs of editing, music, post-production, mastering, replication, rewards and film festival fees. All funds will be used for this if we reach our goal. If we do not reach our goal, you are not obligated to pay! 

How does Kickstarter work? 

Kickstarter enables filmmakers, artists, musicians, and inventors to gain funding for projects that they wouldn't normally be able to afford. People create a Kickstarter page, set a financial goal, and set a deadline. Then you and all your friends decide if the project is worth backing.

Kickstarter projects are "all or nothing", if a project doesn't reach its goal you won't be charged. This whole process is called "crowd-funding" and it's changing the way art is made.

How you can help

First, you can help by financially backing our project. To do this, just click the green button in the upper right corner of this page. Or click the reward that suits you best. Then simply follow the instructions. Again, you'll only be charged once our campaign is successful.

Second, you can share Drifter with friends, family, co-workers, anyone interested in being a part of a movie, or interested in seeing a real western. You can share the link below on your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, personal website, or any other social network. Or you can spread the word in person or on the phone. Sharing is as important as financially backing the project and anything helps.

Frequently asked Questions

Can I gift an incentive? 

YES! Spectacular idea. If you would like to donate to the film but give the reward to someone as a gift, go through all the normal process of making a donation in your name. For billing purposes, this action must be in your name. After our deadline, we will send a message to you on Kickstarter. (It will be forwarded to the email address you provided.) Please reply with all the person’s information that is to receive the reward. We will make sure they are the person who receives the reward. 

Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made?

YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.

What happens if the money isn’t raised in time? 

Unfortunately, nothing. If our goal isn’t met before the deadline, no money changes hands and no movie is made. We want to avoid this scenario at all cost!

Can we exceed the goal?

YES! What an amazing problem to have. Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. Maybe that would mean a more widespread theater release, or more unique physical copy packaging. The possibilities are endless.

Is Drifter a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?

Unfortunately neither this movement nor Drifter is set up as a non-profit. Donations are raw gifts. Non-tax deductible but greatly appreciated!.

If I donate, when can I redeem the incentive?

All incentives, big and small, will only happen if our goal is met. If we do meet our goal, immediately after our deadline we will start to manufacture and ship all physical merch directly to you. It will be our priority to schedule the more personal incentives as soon as possible. You will hear from us. (More on this as we get closer to our deadline.)

Who does the money go to?

Every penny (minus the fees for Kickstarter’s involvement) will go directly to Director Skye Ogilvie’s movie budget - i.e. Your money goes directly to the funding of this film.

$4000 seems like a low number for a movie budget. Doesn’t it?

You are correct.  This number reflects the generosity of my friends and family. The $4000 figure is the remaining balance of a larger total budget. Our goal is imperative for the film to be a reality.
