EXPORT NOLA is a program of and presented by the Backbeat Foundation. EXPORT NOLA is a showcase of diverse New Orleans music. EXPORT NOLA is presented at the premiere entertainment industry conferences in the United States, APAP and SXSW. EXPORT NOLA is programmed and designed to attract national and international talent buyers and arts presenters to discover the varied musical genres of New Orleans and Louisiana. EXPORT NOLA presents both established touring bands as well as emerging artists.
EXPORT NOLA provides a branded platform for the showcasing of New Orleans music. Attendees know that the showcase will not be a random amalgamation of various artists but rather a New Orleans experience. EXPORT NOLA presents the gamut of New Orleans music including Jazz, Funk, Roots Rock, Zydeco, Mardi Gras Indian, Brass Band and Blues. Audience members have called EXPORT NOLA “a New Orleans jazzfest teaser” due to the varied menu of music offered.
EXPORT NOLA provides New Orleans’ artists the ability to perform before a national and international audience of representatives from all facets of the entertainment industry. This opportunity is often reserved for artists who are represented and sponsored by national record labels and/or booking agencies. Many of the artists in New Orleans do not have the representation, financial wherewithal or sponsorship necessary for them to take advantage of these potentially career changing, exposure opportunities.
EXPORT NOLA also showcases artists that have recording deals, representation, and a national touring history in order to demonstrate that New Orleans has an increasing engagement and capacity with the professional music industry and some of the most buzz-worthy, talented and sought after artists for live performance.
EXPORT NOLA 2011 NYC will be the 3rd Annual presentation of this initiative.
History of EXPORT NOLA
In January 2009 and 2010, the Backbeat Foundation presented “EXPORT NOLA: Experience New Orleans Music,” as the Official APAP Showcase of New Orleans music at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference in New York. APAP is the largest gathering of national and international performing arts presenters, managers and artists in the world, the APAP Conference fosters an optimal atmosphere to showcase the heritage and contemporary musical styles of New Orleans among an international audience primarily composed of talent buyers. The line-up of New Orleans based artists featured during EXPORT NOLA had the opportunity to promote their music among this unrivaled gathering of industry stakeholders while serving as ambassadors for the cultural development, preservation and promotion of New Orleans as a whole within the realm of the international music industry. Past performers include Big Sam's Funky Nation, Christian Scott, John Boutte, Paul Sanchez, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Leroy Jones, Jon Batiste Band, Jamie McLean, Kirk Joseph's Backyard Groove, John Ellis & Double Wide, just to name a few.
EXPORT NOLA is a not for profit initiative of the Backbeat Foundation https://www.backbeatfoundation.org. Backbeat Foundation is a 501 C 3 tax-exempt not for profit Louisiana Corporation dedicated to providing New Orleans musicians with resources for professional growth and independence, as well as opportunities for career advancement, exposure and development. Backbeat Foundation presents the EXPORT NOLA Showcase, as an active marketing and promotional experience of the joy, diversity and quality, musical talent that is uniquely and indisputably New Orleans.
