Update #2: packing up the car....

Posted on September 7, 2010

...today is tuesday...my calendar says "clean car"...

amongst some other stuff like: fix bootie lights, paint marbles, sew google straps, finish making whiskers, MASKING TAPE!
and so on.....
aaaahhh the life of a CREATURE

...but this cleaning of my car is my favorite because it means... we are almost ready to pack the car.

in less than 3 days now we will start the physical road journey to Philly where we will enter into another world...the world of FRINGE. it's exciting, nail-biting, breath-taking and somewhat miraculous on my end...to have gotten the work to this point thus far with some of the obstacles that presented themselves....and it is true what i said before....i could not have done it without this community of generous and supportive spirits...thank you so much.

and there is more to come.

i was graciously offered space to do some work in artist/painter William Oberst's studio (www.williamoberst.com) check him out: large, luscious, life-like paintings that offer some interesting and curious juxtapositions of "normal" everyday life. i love to look at the simple situations he presents and imagine the complex stories inherent. And so i will be in there at least for the award-winning North Adams Open Studio weekend of Oct 16+17...and i am looking forward to experimenting further with more creatures to come and details + ideas that are taking up space in my notebook, head and heart. Open studios is a time to invite others into the process...stepping away from the admin aspect of the work for a breath... it will be great for me. i hope you can come by. i'll keep you in tune.

meanwhile, you are all invited to our philly dress rehearsal tomorrow (wed) night in Pittsfield. contact me: Stefanie@fertileuniverse.com or give me a call, for the details. we would love to let you in on our secrets.

thanks again, be well
-Stefanie

ps: i've included here the postcard front and back for philly. ENJOY!

Update #1: ANNOUNCING...

Posted on August 11, 2010

Some of The Philly Creature Team:

Two new crafty creatures have signed onto the performing team. Welcome to the amazing-creaturely Ione Beauchamp and the super-spirited Melissa Larkin! We are getting ready for a revolution here, as the real ones seem to start within the instinct to create.

Lita Lundeen-Setchfield, the fire-spinning, horse-race-pedicap-peddling, silver-swimming, stilt-walking, spider-weaving, flower-loving champ will be a returning performer for this Philly stint. This will be her final creature spot though for 2010 as she will be embarking on a long-term sailing journey with her hubby for the fall+winter upon her return from the City of Brotherly love.

I am also thrilled to announce that the adventurous and often ethereal Maddie Elling (my former HOOPS right hand) will be coming along to handle all the box office skipping + running that needs to happen through the city during our run. Hopefully she will be able to join in as a secondary performer as well for the LITTLE WHEEL parts in the piece.

Coming along also is a long-term collaborator, artist, and great friend Monika Pizzichemi, you may know her from EMPTY SET PROJECTS in Pittsfield on the corner of South and West Housatonic St, where she makes some of the most humorous and fascinating artifacts with egg shells, also where her and her artist-husband Mike McKay get a lot of well-deserved attention for their "sale" signs in the window. www.emptysetprojects.com

But you may also recognize her from The Wit Gallery where she works hard day in and out to keep the Lenox gallery stocked with wit and care. And if none of these ring a bell, then you have certainly seen her work as a photographer, she is known mostly for her waterfall montages and also here for the CREATURES. Monika did all the photography for the SAP residency and promo shots for the premiere of our show in April as well as throughout the show giving us a memorable shot for our promo cards and press when we headed to Brattleboro last month. She'll be on again for the Philly Team helping out in all the areas she can and I am soooo grateful for that. I hope she will join THE LITTLE WHEELS effort too.

Dana Bixby, my architect momma, the queen of -Space. Movement. Architecture.- is also on the Philly Team. She will join in as a LITTLE WHEEL as well as aid in any other spatial needs we have with props and set-up and strike. It's always valuable to have an architect on the team, she keeps me well-informed of what is around that is worth exploring spatially. I am grateful for her intelligence, assistance, friendship and support. www.danabixby.com

...for today, AUG 11th 2010... this is some of the first ever COH PHILLY FRINGE TEAM...and we have $260 dollars left to raise for this part of the effort. I am confident we will reach our goal.

thank you so much ALL OF YOU for your continued support and belief in my vision....
i could not do it without you.

shine on
-Stefanie

ps. I have included another interesting photo from Zachary Stephens' series from our Brattleboro show. This one is Lita (poi) and Karen Lee (prepping the disco ball).

Connected as Stefanie Lynx Weber (759 friends)

I consider myself a dance-maker. Though I suppose that it is really physical poetry. I design metaphors, bump into nuances and make them larger.

I was born and raised on General Electric. It has shaped my metaphors for better or worse. Internal and External. I bring good things to life.

I began to train my muscles and bones in the art of dance technique from the impressionable age of three. I knew I was born for it. My body was clay and my spirit has been true to it's purpose: create this way. Rhythm has been my grounding, and my tap shoes, at times, my drug of choice.

Life is beautiful and life is hard. Art and love make it worth it and keep it expanding.

My first dance-making was done with dolls and objects. I would arrange. Move them, number them. Enter and Exit them. Then I learned to do this with people. And I am still practicing on making it as meaningful as possible.

I have had the absolute joy and privilege to study too many dance techniques with too many amazing people to list here. I regret none of what my body has suffered for doing this. Now, I enjoy the techniques of Gyrotonic, Continuum, Reiki, Sweatlodge and Qigong to reward my body and spirit for all it has and continues to provide for me and many others.

The COH Ensemble (Creatures of Habitat) is a creative passion that lives at the roots of all my making. The opportunity to bond the elements that make us breathe, bleed and birth is an honor. This group helps me to express something I otherwise would frustratingly hold inside: My deep curiosity about and longing for connection to Nature, a force so often taken for granted.

And the ways in which we still ARE Nature.
