Help send me to The Arctic Circle artist residency: two weeks on a science-equpped tall ship sailing near the north pole, making work.

Help send me to The Arctic Circle: an amazing artist residency traveling the Arctic seas on a science-equipped tall ship.

I am so excited to have been admitted to The Arctic Circle for their 2012 voyage. This September/October, I, along with ~20 artists and scientists, will spend two weeks on a science-equipped tall ship departing from Svalbard, an archipelago only ten degrees from the North Pole. During the trip, I will be making new artworks and collecting material for future projects. I will also be getting to know the other artists and scientists on the boat, working towards potential collaborations, sharing ideas, and discovering this new amazing place all together.

My work is frequently science-inspired, taking inspiration from abstract ideas in theoretical physics and astronomy, graphs of data produced by machines studying invisible particles and faraway celestial bodies, the sounds of humming machines in laboratories, and what I imagine movement in outer space to be like. During The Arctic Circle residency, I will be doing my own environmental research: pulling my own "data" from my surroundings in the forms of sound recordings (of the boat itself, my surroundings, underwater, and the atmosphere), video recordings (to be used as material in future animation projects), drawings, texts, and observations about the Arctic vastness, movements, and varying speeds that make it up.

The Arctic Circle is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I am thrilled to have at my fingertips. Your contribution will help me cover the costs of the residency itself, travel, acquiring the necessary gear to stay warm in extreme temperatures, and, last but certainly not least, the proper equipment to make the artworks that I am so excited to make.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the trip or the rewards I am offering for donations. Thank you very much for your consideration.
