Montage is a periodical of literary and visual art by the undergrad students of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Montage Arts Journal is a literary arts periodical by the undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Montage has enjoyed much success over the years, publishing several issues of the best creative works that the university has to offer. But in recent years, Montage has been experiencing hardships. Funding has been the biggest problem, which has led to less exposure for the journal. The staff is trying desperately to right the ship, and keep literary and artistic creativity alive on campus.
Montage was once a Recognized Student Organization, and received money from SORF (Student Organization Resource Fund). SORF is the money taken from every student's tuition by the university to fund RSOs. Any RSO may apply for SORF. Montage has been repeatedly denied for these funds, the reason being that the university doesn't feel the circulation of the journal warrants the cost of publication. Montage feels that this is an unfair way to view the success of a literary arts journal. Our staff feels that it is infinitely important to give young writers and artists an opportunity to reach out with their work. It is important to provide an outlet to the real world.
Our staff is made up of undergrad students of all levels, and of many different majors. We are writers, poets, artists, and designers. Most of all, we are art-lovers. If you share this love, you will be right at home in the Montage family.
The purpose of this Kickstarter project is to raise the money needed to print this semester's periodical. Montage is also planning a release party for this issue. The party will be invitation-only and feature food, readings of this semester's work, and live music. You can earn an invitation to this party by donating at least $20. Other rewards include getting your name in the journal, a T-shirt, a copy of the journal, and a limited edition broadside print of a Montage piece (by the Soybean Press).
Montage will also be launching a new website with the release of this semester's journal. Some of the funds raised will be spent to purchase a domain name, making Montage more accessible to the masses.
As of now, our available funds are at zero. We can't stress enough that any donation you make is greatly appreciated, and even the smallest amount counts for something. Montage would not exist without the support of people like you, and we thank you for taking the time to check out this site! Questions or comments may be sent to email@example.com.
*Please note that Kickstarter is All-or-Nothing, meaning if we don't reach our goal of $2,500 we will receive nothing. However, anything over our goal will be awarded to us!
Previous issues of Montage can be seen at go.illinois.edu/Montage.
