Update - Screen Protectors
Hey Kickstarters
The majority of your Jots work great! If that is you then disregard this email and continue writing or drawing away with your Jot.
For those of you with screen protectors
We understand that there are some problems with using Jot on Zagg screen covers. The problem is that both surfaces are incredibly slick, making them stick together. We tested on multiple screen protectors during development and Jot worked great. The mistake was made when we assumed Zagg screen protectors worked like all the screen protectors. It appears Zagg's screen protector is softer and more compliant causing Jot to stick even more.
We have multiple prototypes underway to solve this problem. One in particular that is working well uses a slight raise in the center of the disc as well as texture to offset the slick screen covers. Be patient. We will find a solution. As soon as we have it we will be sending them to those in need. We appreciate your patience as we solve this problem.
If you want a work around until we get you a new disc we do have an easy modification you can do yourself for now. If you remove your disc from Jot, like in the previous video. Place the disc flat side down on a soft wood surface and pop the ball point back into the disc. This will place the raised surface in the middle of the disc.
Questions about Jot?
If your Jot has any disk issues please contact help@adonit.net, we are here to help you and to make sure you have everything you need. We have seen some advice floating around in the comments section about going to Amazon for a refund. Allow us to resolve your problem first. If we can't resolve the problem, then we can take care of your return.

Yeah it's been mentioned a few times already :)

Paul Robertson has a good method of deterring the problem temporarily.

I ran into the problem with my Zagg protector.
I was able to work around it with a simple hack. I just got some clear tape ("scotch" tape) and stuck it to the bottom of the disc. I then trimmed around the edges to get rid of excess tape.
Obviously there are different brands of tape with different textures etc., but this solution has worked perfectly for me. My Jot glides smoothly over my Zagg InvisibleShield and doesn't stick at all, which is even better than my other "eraser" type stylus.
Obviously this isn't a perfect, permanent solution -- I only did this a couple of days ago so I'm not sure how long the tape will last. I look forward to the real solution from Adonit, but in the mean time maybe this will help some others.

Like Simon, I created a raised surface on the disk but it still sticks. is there a time estimate in regards to when the new disks will be ready? I've been sticking it out with my old, crappy stylus ever since I backed the Jot and don't think I can wait much longer before going another route.

I don't have a Zagg screen protector but it seems everyone else that ordered a Jot does. What is so good about the Zagg protector?
Creator Simon Imam on August 31, 2011
Took your advice & created a raised surface on the disk. However the stick factor is still substantial that it impacts the writing experience. One almost has to hold the pen in a feather light grip and barely touch the screen. I look forward to the fix you are working on. I really like to make Jot a don't leave the iPad side accessory that it's truly meant to be.

I received my Jot stylus last night and I love it so far. I only have 1 issue. The cap comes loose very easy, it doesn't stay on tight. I'm going to try and figure a way to keep it on tight using some puddy or rubber cement. It works very good on my iPhone and iPad.
I also have a question about the Jot app. How do I get mine?
Great job guys! I have already told all my friends about it!
Creator Paul Motsuk on August 31, 2011
I finally got my Jot Pro together with my Zagged iPad. Rats!
Will you make a general announcement when the new disks are available? Or do you want people to email you to request a Zagg compatible disk?
By the way, what a great stylus! I also have tried it on my screen protector less iPhone. It works wonderfully there!
Creator Wesley Wilson on August 31, 2011
Received my Jot Pro today. Instantly found out it did not like my Zagg screen. So I tried it on my iPhone with no screen. Wow! It worked. I've tried other pen options even a home made Jot like one. But only the Jot Pro has ever worked with no issues. I'm waiting for the new Zagg disks to come out to give them a try. But I am very tempted to ditch my Zagg now that I have a writing tool.
Thanks for a great design. Love the feel and balance in my hand. I cannot wait to see what will come next from the Zagg disk to the app.
Godspeed from a grateful backer,
Wesley

I can verify that putting scotch tape on the bottom of the disk solves the ZAGG screen protector problem. ( I intended to post that discovery earlier but it seems some one beat me to it ;-) )
This is the easiest, no-destructive fix I think. I am loving my Jot now. Best stylus on the market!!!
I do like the previous suggestion that extra disks (of varying textures) be available for purchase. I can see my original one being destroyed/lost pretty quickly when my kids start using the Jot.
As a matter of fact, I would suggest that each Jot ship with at least 1-2 extra disks by default.
Creator Stephen Leech on August 31, 2011
Well I just removed the zagg screen protected and replaced it with the one that came with the otterbox. The jot works great now. Just the reason to change my screen out, been thinking of doing it for weeks.
Creator Reggie Pincock on August 31, 2011
Good to know that the issue is being dealt with. I have not yet received my Jot so I'm not sure if it will work with my screen protector. But I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say I wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks to have some spare discs around in case of an incident. Maybe at the same time you're manufacturing the replacement "Zagg compatible" discs you could make some extra regular ones for purchase? Just a suggestion.
Creator Scott Hampshire on August 31, 2011
If you don't want to risk breaking your disk, it has been pointed out that scotch tape placed on the bottom of the disk also alleviates the ZAGG protector issue.
Creator Art Davis on August 31, 2011
Don't have a problem with this issue. Am just responding to the email with a bit of constructive criticism: when the angle of the disk is that appropriate to the end of a stroke, it sometimes causes a glitch at the beginning of the next. Not a major prob, and I will probably learn to compensate---nevertheless it is a very minor flaw in a great tool!
Creator Stephanie Kalfus on August 31, 2011
I'm going to wait until a real "fix" is found for those of us with Zagg screen protectors....please let me know as soon as you've got one!
Creator Stefan Willoughby on August 31, 2011
Just wanted to say that while I don't have my Jot yet, I'm not really fussed.
I'm loving the level of customer communication from you guys!
Creator Adonit on August 31, 2011
@Jussi: You are exactly right when you say, "press the ball back in place in the ordinary fashion." The force of putting it back in place should solve your problem for now.
@Bindu: If it doesn't make sense then check out the video here. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/531383637/jot-capacitive-touch-stylus/posts/113390
Repeat exactly what is done in the video and it should be ready to go!
Creator Bindu Wavell on August 31, 2011
Hi folks, the fix doesn't make sense to me, please clarify: "Place the disc flat side down on a soft wood surface and pop the ball point back into the disc. This will place the raised surface in the middle of the disc." Since I have not received my Jot Pro yet, this is speculative... I do have an InvisiSHIELD from Zagg...
Creator Jussi Myllyluoma on August 31, 2011
Just guessing, but I'd surmise that pressing the ball joint back into the disc (which seems to take a bit of force) with the disc on a soft surface, deforms the disc slightly, thereby creating the raised dimple in the middle of the disc necessary to make it work on InvisibleShield.
I'm thinking that when they say, "place the disc flat side down on a soft wood surface and pop the ball point back into the disc," the idea is probably not to turn the disc upside down, but merely to press the ball back in place in the ordinary fashion, just against a softer surface than you'd normally want to use.
Creator J. Decker on August 31, 2011
I'm with PurpleOrchid. I have a Zagg screen protector and the Jot does stick on it. I removed the disk and replaced it on a soft surface with no noticeable difference. Is the ball supposed to bow the capacitive X on the disk out?
Creator Kevin Jones on August 31, 2011
Thanks for the update - I was afraid I was the only one having this problem. I look forward to the resolution.
Creator Brenton Schlender on August 31, 2011
The Jot Pro works great on matte screen protectors. Lefties might want to invest in some fingerless gloves, however. If you allow the side of your hand to make direct contact with the screen while writing or drawing, the iPad thinks you are making a two-finger gesture.
Creator PurpleOrchid on August 31, 2011
I haven't received my Jot Pro yet, but I do have a Zagg screen protector, so this is a useful tidbit. However, I don't fully understand the temporary workaround (probably b/c I don't have my Jot Pro yet). The part I don't understand is: "This will place the raised surface in the middle of the disc." Does that mean, we are flipping the disc upside down from how it came in the package and then by pushing onto soft wood, we are "moving" a nubby in the disc? That's the only reason why I see needing soft wood to press on the disc if the flat side is down. Perhaps a close up video might help. :)
Creator Lissa McGrath on August 31, 2011
Thanks for the update! I can't wait to get mine to try it out. I don't have a Zagg screen protector. I have one of the other brands (honestly don't remember which one, but I avoided Zagg specifically because of the texture difference and the insane application process!).
