Our black elderberries are so productive this year, we'd like to make elderberry syrup to share.
This year the black elderberries at Swanfire Farm have been going crazy producing more fruit than we know what to do with - unless we preserve it to sell as elderberry syrup. Elderberries are delicious and healthful, enjoyed as a flavoring in drinks and used as an herbal dietary supplement among other things. We make our syrup using only our own elderberries which are grown without any pesticides or chemical fertilizer, wildflower honey from Busy Bee Apiary here in Hillsborough NC, water, and organic lemon juice.
It seems obvious. With so many berries this year we should be selling this stuff! But when we looked into the overhead costs to make it legal for sale we were disappointed. To rent a licensed kitchen and add prepared foods to our farm insurance would cost more than we can front for a new project right now.
So here's your chance to get your own jar of our elderberry syrup and be part of a successful project for a small family farm.
And once those initial costs are paid, we will be able to sell other fruit preserves, too, such as Ana's much-loved Ginger Peach Butter, and even more if there is enough interest.
