About this project
Due to massive cuts in arts funding at the State and City level, we moved the much anticipated production of the new musical THE DAY BOY & THE NIGHT GIRL (Words by Katie Baldwin Eng Music by James Rubio) to January 2011 in order to secure addition funding needed to make this production a reality.
This is a powerful and moving new musical that reminds us - in the words of Kahlil Gibran -
"OUR CHILDREN are not our children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself…
They come through us but not from us.
And though they are with us yet they belong not to us."
In addition to the funding already set aside for this production, we are looking to raise $7,500.00 to allow us to bring in professional puppeteers and a professional contemporary dance troupe to add into the production of 7 actors and a 7 piece orchesta.
Adapted from the nineteenth century short story by clergyman George MacDonald, THE DAY BOY AND THE NIGHT GIRL is the story of Watho, a witch who, while driven to discover the answers to the endless questions of life, is possessed by a Wolf in her mind. In the grandest of all her experiments to find answers, she decided to raise two children; the Day Boy, raised without any fear in the light, but he's terrified of the dark, and the Night Girl, imprisoned in a dark cellar. By raising the children in this way, she hopes to guard them against their own "wolves".
