Photo-main

When her ex drags her outside of reality, the fastest woman ever built has to piece herself together across four timelines.

Update #2: The secondary goal has been set. Update #3: ...And revised downward!

$6400 unlocks SPOT GLOSS throughout the comic.

Why so much more than the original goal? Well, you can't get gloss unless you go to offset printing, and that means much bigger runs. I was originally thinking I'd have to sell around 800 books for $20,000, but I've since gotten much better quotes that let me go down to a mere few hundred books. So spread the word, and let's see if we can make this happen!

Update #1:

Like the robot lady says: now to work out how much it'll cost to get it printed with a glossy treatment on the creepy eyes that lurk in the black void between the panels, and set a funding goal for that! Also maybe hardcovers.

I'm raising funds to produce the first collected volume of my science fiction comic "Decrypting Rita". It'll be about 120 pages long, 6x9". The whole thing's already drawn; all I need to do is get it ready for print, and make it happen!

When her ex drags her outside of reality, the fastest woman ever built gets fragmented across four wildly different timelines.

Can she pull herself together when she's not even sure if she's a dragon, an explorer, an ordinary woman, or a machine any more?

For that matter, which reality is the truth? They can't all be real at the same time... can they? Is Rita even really a machine in the first place?

Different realities run across the page in parallel, ebbing and flowing as the story shifts focus. This is comics like you've never seen them before. Expect some stunning visual effects by a decade-long mistress of Adobe Illustrator, and a few questions about the ultimate nature of reality -- and a lot of wild animated action.

You can read the whole first book for free online at http://egypt.urnash.com/rita/. If you like what you see then hit that pledge button and support feminist SF comics!

And if you've read this far... remember, this only works if I make or exceed that pledge goal - otherwise no money changes hands, and I don't get to do this print run. So if you want a copy of this book, spread the news!

FAQ

  • Pretty much entirely in Illustrator, which had been my main medium for about a decade. It's mostly a ton of filled shapes drawn and refined with the pencil tool; buildings and non-sentient machines get drawn with the pen and the various basic shape tools. You can see a little of my process here.

  • Softcover. I thought of offering a hardcover option as a higher tier, but decided that was too complicated for my first attempt at a Kickstarter!

A DAY HANGING OUT WITH PEGGY. Maybe we'll go to a burlesque show, maybe I'll teach you something about drawing and show you a bunch of my notes for this comic and other ones, maybe we'll go see a burlesque show, maybe I'll invite some folks over for a game of Cosmic Encounter, maybe we'll just look at Peggy's comics collection, I dunno. You might leave with one of the huge prints hanging around my closet if there's something you like in there. You might even catch a cold if I'm sick! Note: You are responsible for getting yourself in the same city as Peggy (Seattle) and for lodging before and after your AWESOME DAY OF NERDY AWKWARDNESS. Plus of course a signed copy of the book, the PDF, the robot lady prints, and you get listed as an SUPER ULTRA MEGA SPONSOR in the back, with a drawing.
