Laurie Reardon is in terrible danger.  Her life has become a dark fairytale: her father and sister are distant, her stepmother unknowably wicked.  And something sinister has come to her hometown of Staketon, Connecticut: a murderer whose victims are found torn to pieces.

Now Laurie, pulling away from her friends and the boy she might be in love with, decides that the only way to escape her life is to dig into the world of the killer.  The more she uncovers, however, the more unsettling things become. Because in Laurie's world, nothing is safe and no one is innocent, and the monster stalking this sleepy suburban town ... might just be her.
