All my life, I've been in jobs where I am absolutely miserable. The reason is because I have been failing to utilize my calling as an artist/illustrator. In 2002, in my 40's, I began a dramatic change in my thinking by joining the Roman Catholic Church. My illustrations and paintings previously had been based on music, television, or music, portraits, fantasy and sci-fi themes, the human figure, landscape, and pin-up work with a sense of humor along the lines of Gil Elvgren's work. I like my previous work and its often fun, but I also want to do something much more meaningful that can have a lasting impact and be a more rounded reflection of who I am today.
It's too bad this did not fund. I wish you well. Keep moving forward no matter if kickstarter helped or not. Your project is worth it!
Bryan, congratulations. I like the concept for your latest project. Now for marketing: to communicate your vision to others, make a video of you explaining your project from the inside of a church. Lay a track of Gregorian chant music. You can make this marketing video easily using the program movie maker on your computer. I would like to be involved. Count me in. Lay the groundwork so that your patrons can easily understand your vision. Make them partners with you so that together you are creating something new and exciting.
Show sketches of what you have in mind. Have a portfolio of your work as a flip book online.

Finally, you do not need to pay models. Offer each model an 8 x 11 photograph of your finished work. The models will be thrilled to see themselves in your paintings.
Make a bonus program for your patrons. When they donate at a certain level, they too get a photograph. Donate at another level, they get two photographs. You must create levels of donation so that no matter where a person is in their commitment, they can find a level of donation for your project.
Example: Silver, Gold, Platinum, Angel, Archangel. Create donor amounts and rewards for each level of donation. Also, extend your donation period through Christmas. Many people will give this donation as a Christmas present.
You could make this project a church fund raiser, where the church gets 8x11 photographs of your work .
