Crab Season Over??

When is crab season over?  For anyone with their ear to the ground here in Half Moon Bay, the answer could be now.  This past weekend, the last of our boats was supposedly pulling his gear for the year.  The crab out there are growing scarce and salmon season is fast approaching.  It's supposed to be a good one so there will be a lot of boats in the water and the crabbers won't be able to go where they want to.  But whether it is now or one or two weeks from now, the local crab season is closing down.  We've thought a lot about this and we don't want to sell any crab that isn't local.  We wouldn't buy it for ourselves so why would we want to serve it to anyone else?  However, we also recognize that we have some backers still with vouchers, and we also have a few Kickstarter parties still to cater.  We've decided to sell Oregon and Washington crab, when we can no longer buy local, until the end of May.  On May 1st, commercial salmon season opens and we are considering offering a salmon sandwich and salmon fish tacos.  

The t-shirts are finally in!  For those of you waiting for them, let us know if you want us to send you yours or even better, come down and see us again.  I will have them in the Shack.

Crab Season Home Stretch!

While the rest of the world has corned beef and cabbage and Guinness stout on the mind, and while I did have a brief run as an Irish concertina-ist full of jigs and Guinness stout, the Shack is still crabby happy chock loaded full of local crab.  However, the latest word I am hearing from local crabbers is that the season could wrap up as early as mid-April, more likely end of April.  Sport salmon season opens on April 6 and rumor has it that sport fishermen like to cut crab pot lines when they get in their way and nothing ruins a crabber's day than losing $300-400 worth of gear.  So the remaining crabbers out there right now may be pulling their pots earlier than we originally heard.  We're still hoping to be open through the end of April.  But to make a long story short, if you haven't come on by the Shack to get your crab, come on by the Shack and get your crab!  And if you want whole steamed crab, text me the day before to make sure I save you some - 650.465.3781.  Did I mention that I like to drink Guinness?

2 weeks in and we are still alive!

Poppy's Crab Shack is two weeks into our season and we have survived without any major casualties.  Hot damn!  Plenty of bumps and bruises and our entire world smells like fresh crab, but all in all things are going very well.  We've seen a handful of your already down for a visit, a steamed crab and a Poppy's Crab Roll.  We'll see the rest of you sooner than later - come on down.  

We do want to check to see if everyone has gotten their vouchers.  We had a few people say they got two vouchers in the mail - their own and another person's in the same envelope, the victim of sticky voucher syndrome.  Please let us know if you haven't gotten your voucher yet, we will send you out another one asap.  Also, for you t-shirt folk, the shirts are ordered and in production, we had a slight delay, but they are on their way.
