My Grandfather, Gerald R. Perry, was a tail-gunner for the 493rd Bomb Group, 860th Bombardment Squadron during WWII. He flew 35 missions over Germany keeping a keen eye on the road behind in the tail of a B-17 bomber.

Despite being repeatedly hit by flak from 104mm cannons and avoiding suicide attacks from German fighters he survived the war and outlived most of his most of his crew-mates. He is now 93. He is the true embodiment of a survivor.

Being a Texas native naturally he has an instilled love of old country music particularly of the likes of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. Despite growing up in a different time, place, and culture this is one love that my grandfather are able to bond on. That and poker.

The best time I ever spent with him we spent the day listening to Johnny Cash records, playing penny poker, and discussing the poker strategies of Amarillo Slim and Doyle Brunson.

Recordings I have done in the past have never really been his cup of tea. I want to create an album that is for him. It would be just me, an acoustic guitar, and some good old fashioned down home country music.

I have studio time booked at Magnolia Records in the early part of September. I will be recording some old classics, few modern tunes, and a few originals.

The $350 covers the studio time plus the first round of CD pressing. Anything I raise over $350 will go toward pressing additional CD’s.
