About this project
On the heels of the widely distributed and acclaimed Eamonn Simone Films & TWN production of Dreams Deferred: The Sakia Gunn Film Project, our sophomore project, a feature length, semi-autobiographical piece will profile several Black gay men, some possibly chosen from the Facebook page of the same name. Footage of music performances, spoken word, dance, a pictorial tribute to fallen ancestors and interviews will create a positive image of BGM, and highlight the contributions they've made to their communities.
The project was born out of my frustration with encountering dis-ingenuousness, prejudice and misinformation that I've encountered on social networking sites for gay men. It will confront hypocrisy, racism, gender expression bias, HIV sero-sorting, and other social ills that potentially discourage the spirits of BGM. We hope to educate, enlighten and encourage our respective communities as we present the stories of the participants. I look forward to working with some of the men that I have recently met on the the user driven social networking page, designed to garner interest and participation in the film project. We hope to show artists, politicians, activists, doctors, community organizers, and students, who self identify as a Black gay men, SGL, queer, etc.
