The Future of Linux Gaming
Project by Matthew Stublefield
I never owned a Commodore 64. I didn't need to--the game makers had moved on...
The more I talk with people about this book, the more fascinated I become with the subject. Gaming on Linux is surrounded with heroism and treachery as developers steal code from one another, others give of their time and effort freely, and still others abandon it completely because they're making no money. There are people on all sides of the issue, and I'll be interviewing them.
What's the state of Linux gaming? And does it have a future? I'll be talking with Blizzard, Valve, CCP, and EA to discuss their values, OpenGL versus DirectX, and what their thoughts are on Linux. I'll talk with students and professors of game art and design. I'm already making some contacts with indie game developers who build on Linux, seeing it as a free platform to launch and get their games out there.
The money will fund necessary equipment for interviewing, recording, and producing the book in its varied formats. It'll be available under a Creative Commons license, so your donation doesn't just get you a copy, it gets you something you can share with everyone you know. Ebook, audiobook, and dead-tree-models will all be available.
Want to know more? Add a comment and ask me anything. I'm also very interested in your suggestions and input, so don't hesitate to share!

My day job has enough variety that I learned what I love to do, but it's rare I get to do what I love amongst everything else. I'm determined to find another way to follow my passion.
