Update #5: The Trip is Over, The Work Just Beginning

Posted on April 19
Dear friends and supporters,

Our sojourn across the South has concluded!  From our original plans of visiting 13 cities across 30 days we ended up visiting 17 cities over 32 days.  There were so many wonderful people and places for us to visit that we found it hard to choose. That being said, there were also many people and places that we did not have time to see even though we really wanted to.  Most days our schedule was from 8am until after midnight as we struggled to fit as many interviews into the day as possible.

We want to thank everyone who participated: whether being one of the almost 200 interviews we conducted, one of the wonderful hosts who allowed us to stay in their home, one of our great tour guides who showed us the best their city had to offer, or one of our wonderful donors.

Over the next few weeks we will review the footage and determine what we need to move forward.  We will also begin outlining our big online directory of creatives across the South. You can see the initial directory on our website.  We hope to raise funds to make this something awesome.  A comprehensive and easy to navigate list of creatives and creative support organizations in our region.

You can keep up with our journey on our blog.  We will be updating it with reflections about our experiences on the road and updates on what we are doing now.  Additionally we will send out periodic emails with any big news we might have. If you haven't already, sign up for emails here.

Thanks again for helping us make this a reality!

Cubby, James and Melonie

Update #4: We made it!

Posted on February 16

Thank you so much to all of you that have supported us so far. Our journey is just beginning now! Any additional funds that we incur will be put towards food, housing & miscellaneous costs.

We've still go 3 hours to go, so please feel free to still share our project with folks, if only just to inform them of what we're doing!

You may also check out our website and follow us as we proceed.

With upmost sincerity,

James, Melonie & Cubby

Update #3: Thank you + new interviews + new press!

Posted on February 14

First, a BIG THANK YOU to all of our new (and original) donors!  Your belief in us means a lot, and with your help we are SO close to making this project a reality.  As of today we only need around $1,000 to make Something in Particular happen.

So, here are some updates.  We have scored some great interviews.  It looks like we will be speaking with Civic Center and (if their schedule allows) Grammy winners Rebirth Brass Band in New Orleans, we will be touring classic writer Faulkner's home and haunts in Oxford, and taking notes with Public School in Austin.

Over the past few weeks we have picked up some great press from our friends at Scoutmob, Common Creativ Atlanta, Out There Atlanta , Design Sponge and TBD.  Make sure to give these great groups some support, they deserve it.

Keep your ideas and your support coming our way, we really appreciate it.

In addition to checking out John Ruskey in Clarksdale ( you can stay at the Shack up Inn!) you should dip down to Vicksburg and check out the Attic Gallery and interview Lesley Silver. An amazing gallery that is the cornerstone of deep south art. - Erin

Update #2: Update #2: Thank you!

Posted on January 25

We want to express a big THANK YOU for supporting us! Every dollar that has been pledged is helping us to be one step closer to our goal. We are doing everything we can to get our story and project out there and it's because of you that we're able to do so.

Some news: We are in some exciting talks with a well-known Southern lifestyle magazine that wants to do a feature story on us. We also received some wonderful press from Grace at Design*Sponge. It's so nice that people as far away as Brooklyn are taking notice. We've had a lot of people reach out and recommend some great places around the South that we should visit. If any of you have any more people or places we should know about, please don't hesitate to pass them on!

In the past few weeks we have started our Atlanta based interviews with some great folks. We hope to have some footage heading your way in the near future. Without people like you our project wouldn't be possible

Thanks again,

SIP (James, Melonie & Cubby)

I guess it is implied that Atlanta would be on the list. How about Savannah?

For rillz, when you hit Chattahooga, please think about talking to Matt Sears.

Also, I'm an incredibly busy and important person, so please be sure to make arrangements with one of my personal assistants to arrange your interview with me. I will do my best to make myself available for your segment on brilliant public relations and marketing experts for lean and mean non-profits.
