About this project
This has been a long time coming.
I spent 5 years living on Point LeGere, a rural, hidden peninsula in Alabama, a place untouched by time. While I was there, I heard the most beautiful music- seeping out of the ground, hidden in the fog, in the chorus of frogs singing along the river's edge- and I did my best to transcribe what I heard.
These are songs about outsiders, animals, nature; songs of suffering and of hope. I sing about my relationships with women and my undying love and awe of the natural world. The album is a celebration of the life I have experienced along the Gulf Coast, and the lessons learned along the way; it is as dear to me as a child, and I am doing everything in my being to make the most beautiful record possible.
Now, as 2010 draws to a close, I live in Brooklyn and have a great band consisting of Rob Jost on upright bass and Robert DiPietro on drums. A host of musical friends including Michelle Casillas, Tony Scherr, Sasha Dobson and others is eager to bring these songs to life, and we are ready to record. With your help, we are going to record at Trout studios in Brooklyn, NY under the expert engineering care of Bryce Goggin, who has worked with Antony and the Johnsons and Joan as Policewoman and is a perfect fit for this undertaking.
This is a big endeavor and I can't do it alone! Your contributions on kickstarter will be used to compensate the musicians and engineers for their work as well as to pay for studio time, mastering, and pressing of CDs. Every step along the way has required love and care, and this is your opportunity to be part of this journey.
Thank you for your support,
So Brown
