Your support continues in suprising ways
It has been so gratifying to send out the rewards to all of you, and to get to know some of you. This project, which you are very much part of, keeps on giving, and I thought I'd share a few things that have unexpectedly come out of it.
Through Kickstarter, a journalist in Egypt discovered our project and wrote this article:
She is now working on an article which will feature Tao Seeger, who spearheaded the music.
Another backer, Paul Selker, gifted his rewards to his sister in New Orleans, whom I look forward to meeting. In my email conversations with Paul to work out logistics of getting stuff to his sister, we had a conversation about Middle Eastern graphic novels. He introduced me to a great book, Zahra's Paradise, which I'll be including in a Middle Eastern literature course I'll be doing soon.
Khaled ended up having a great conversation with Risa Cohen and her Egyptian friend Nahla in Canada as part of one of the reward levels. It was very meaningful to him to have such a deep dialogue across borders.
Finally, when I went to NY last weekend to see my brother and catch the Bjork show, I visited my friend Perry at Kickstarter. As I was getting the rewards together to distribute, I was surprised to see the address where I would visit him on Stephanie Pereira's response. So I got to hand-deliver her reward and meet her and Michael McGregor, who gave us a boost by featuring our project by surprise. I loved seeing the Kickstarter office and meeting some of the staff.
We are currently editing the show (thanks Miles!) and will have a video of it to share. People have mentioned doing another performance(s) sometime. I don't know if that is in the cards, but I'm open to the idea, for sure.
I expect this project will continue to create connections in beautiful and unexpected ways. That, after all, is the idea behind this piece, after all. The support and the collaborative nature of the show has certaintly changed the way I think about sharing my work.
Thanks again, and do let me know if you have not received your rewards. Best, Andy
