Romeo's Ugly Nose | Poems by Christopher Shipman and Paintings by Benjamin Cockfield
An illustrated book of poems, Romeo's Ugly Nose is part homage to the famed love of Romeo and Juliet, part mockery of it, and part something else altogether. Our star-crossed lovers are lost in the specificity and ambiguity of their own myth, but they are also drunk, walking to the nearest Chevron, and drowning in the river of ambivalence love throws their way. The pages of the book, filled with the striking and singular poetry of Christopher Shipman, and the hauntingly beautiful paintings of Benjamin Cockfield, is awash with streams of concepts, flowing simultaneously under the current of its pages. The book, then, is not conceptual, but a meeting of concepts. The perspectives of poet and painter that come together in the pages form a union that celebrates the confrontation of distance and closeness, the image and the word, the elemental and the personal, beauty and ugliness, ghosts and breathing bodies, love and the idea of love. Above all, Shakespeare's lovers hopefully suffer, not only from the woes of their own myth, but from the struggles of the audience to reconcile their own relationships with others, with the world, or with love itself.

Benjamin Cockfield writes about himself in the third person when putting together a bio. Other times, he speaks to himself from several different mostly harmless voices located somewhere in the noggin. He is a so-called artist of the 21st century, still using somme of the most archaic forms of instrumentation. After receiving a BFA with a focus in painting and drawing, he is desperately trying to forget everything he learned and start from scratch. He can be found in various karaoke venues or construction dumpsters in New Orleans, LA.
The Press | Allography
Romeo's Ugly Nose will be the first thing allography publishes that requires users to engage in their tactile sense, and we're pretty excited about that. We imagine that you will be engaging in your other senses as well, and we're pretty excited about that too. Our mission at allography is to promote and create experiments with storytelling, and we can't imagine a better project to inaugurate our debut non-digital publication than Rome's Ugly Nose. It's ridiculously awesome. -

The books cost about $6 a piece to print. Depending on where you live, shipping will be $3-$5. Then, 50% of what's left will go into printing additional copies for Christopher to take on his reading tour and to be sold on allography.com. The rest will be divvied up between Christopher, Benjamin, and allography. For the rest, the breakdown is about the same. All supplies will total about 60-70% of what you donate and the rest is used to print extra copies of the book, maintain allography.com, and feed Christopher and Benjamin.
Before we get any of the money, kickstarter and amazon take a combined 6% (roughly). Our hope is that we can generate enough sales so that future projects put forth by allography can kick start themselves ;)
