Update #4: Rolling in support in rolling
That title's not a typo: between the incredible pledges we've received from all of you on Kickstarter and the new faces and donations we're seeing locally, the past few weeks have been a constant stream of support. Since we use that support to make your bike go, we are literally rolling in rolling support. Thank you!!
We only have 36 hours to go on this Kickstarter project, so the clock is ticking to get in on the ground floor of Common Cycle support. If you have any friends who haven't gotten a t-shirt yet, or know a bike education enthusiast who's got no spoke cards, send them our way! We think it's special being part of something new and exciting, so thanks again for being so special to all of us at Common Cycle. You're the best!
Update #3: Almost there!
Wow. As of this moment, we are only $214 away from our goal, with thirteen days left to go. This is amazing. Thank you all so much for your support. It has been incredibly exciting to see people near and far rally around our dream of bike repairs and education for all.
We're continuing to get some nice coverage in the press. Our local paper (which is now mostly a website) did an article about the repair stand last week, and they even included a link to Kickstarter for easy pledging (welcome, AnnArbor.com readers!).
Last Friday morning we set up the Mobile Repair Stand at Friday Mornings @ SELMA, Ann Arbor’s “local foods breakfast salon.” There is some great foodie/cyclist crossover in this town, and we're hoping to continue doing monthly repair stands there through the fall. It's been really fun finding all the different places where we can set up our tent, fix bikes, teach people, and build a cycling community. The flexibility we get from our mobile stand has been even more valuable than we imagined, and we are so excited to upgrade it with sturdier trailers and professional tools. We're almost there!
Update #2: We're almost halfway there!
Hello, Kickstarter pledgers!
We have a couple of brief updates for you.
1) The lovely women of Let’s Go Ride a Bike did a feature about one of our board members on their blog, and it includes a terrific write-up of Common Cycle. Let’s Go Ride a Bike is a great site that regularly includes reviews of commuter bikes, profiles of bike commuters, tips on how to cycle commute in challenging conditions (one of the authors rides all winter in Chicago), and lots of beautiful pictures of bicycles. We’re big fans, and we’re so proud to see Molly there.
2) We are nearly halfway to our fundraising goal, with almost a full month still to go! Thank you all for your pledges! Please, spread the word, tell your friends, tell your families, tell the friendly cyclists you pass on the street. We are so grateful for your support. Last weekend our chain tool busted and it damaged the chain we were supposed to be repairing, which reminded us that we really need some new tools, soon. (Don’t worry, our quick thinking mechanic did a little MacGyvering and all was fixed in the end).
Update #1: Wow!
Just wanted to give a quick shout out and thank-you to everyone getting involved with common cycle. It's been a crazy week getting the Kickstarter project going, seeing the huge amount of support we're getting (32 backers and 30% of the way there in just seven days!), and getting excited for the programming we can accomplish with it. To put some tangibility to it, if we had that dough right now, we'd be able to get two professional tool kits, complete with dish tools, headcup presses, and my personal favorite: the derailleur alignment gauge. From our two dozen volunteers and our seven-person board, thank you! Let's keep this momentum going!
