When this kickstarter was in session, I backed at the "apprentice" level, but I've been having some confusion over the past couple of months. What exactly am I getting? On here it says the solo game, but on the site I think I've seen that people my level and up are getting the full multiplayer game. Is this true? Maybe I just read something wrong. I tried to contact the ST team via email, but they didn't answer, so if someone with knowledge about this answered it would be much appreciated.

Ah, it did say two magi. I think I was confused after reading the Master collector that said a core set, then reading player where they specify magi set. That's how I got stuck on two core sets. Really I dont even know what I'm getting at this point, but I'm looking forward to it. The latest images look great.

Okay, I see it. From what I'm reading, the Master is two complete Magi sets. The Magi is (basically) 2 core sets, plus one case. Since Master is double, that would mean 4 core sets, and two cases. That translates to about $25 cheaper than the Magi preorder.

Michael I agree, this is definitely the right way to go. It respects the KS agreement and allows them to, hopefully, draw in new supporters.

There might not have been as much opposition if the possible plan was more clearly understood by the KS backers, but I think this is a much superior way to go about it.

@Michael, don't worry about it. I know in this day and age people just assume that FB and Twitter are an option. Truth be told, I didn't even know that those were being used, so even if I had been following more closely I would have been missing things.

It's not that big of a deal, I just don't care for finding out about these things now. It feels like a missed opportunity to get more diamondy players involved in testing.

Some of us don't have those things. I'm at a loss as to why FB and Twitter would be more up to date than KS, since it's the only site that's guaranteed to have all the KS backers.

In fact, for most of that time I couldn't got to FB, Twitter and Google+ even if I wanted to.

The one thing we disagree about, Thomas, is whether or not information was restricted to the website. For a period of time, that was where the most up to date information could be found, to be sure. And some discussion still happens there, first. But the updates are coming (and have been coming) on all kinds of places: email, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, becomemagi.com, and (though maybe not as often as it should), here on Kickstarter.

Admittedly, communication has been more scattered than we would all like, but the information has decidedly *not* been just on the website. It's just been maybe more scattered, and less focused, than everybody would have liked, but it's been there for the taking.

@Michael, the point there was that there's been a lot of randomness to things in this regard. I would have updgraded to the Antagonist had I not missed it by a couple minutes.

I don't begrudge people of their elevation, I just think that if it was important enough work to justify elevation, then it's important enough for the community to know about. Restricting things to the website which isn't guaranteed to reach everybody wasn't a wise idea. I haven't been able to attend any of the gatherings because of the instability of my internet connection and having been in a weird timezone.

@Thomas: You and I have a different definition of random, then :) The people who were elevated were people who worked hard at one specific item, and got rewarded for it. Before it happened, it wasn't even viewed as possibility by the people doing it.

Some history of the site might help. Trying to condense it isn't easy, but I'll try. Back in June, the first playtest kit came out, and people received PDFs allowing them to print the cards and play. However, those cards really needed to be printed in full color. Not doing so resulted in cards that were very difficult to read. Flare wanted to print, but didn't want to pay the cost. He wrote a simple tool that allowed him to put cards into a database, and print out low ink versions. The SoG took notice, and asked him to add some features, and then more features, until we come to today. The Flare Card Network has become the way by which cards are managed. You can log in, view them, search them, comment on them, submit new ones, etc.

The end result is that Flare became elevated by virtue of having found a need, filling it, improving it, and working with the SoG to make it into a tool that helps the entire community. The only random part is having been noticed by the SoG. Each of the individuals who were elevated have done something similar. In some cases, the amount of work put in by them has been of a quantity and quality that they could probably use it on a resume for an actual paid job somewhere.

@Industrial Scribe: Getting that percentage is actually harder to gauge than you might think. They've tried to make sure they're reaching everybody in the manner they're most likely to do so. This means posts on Google+, Facebook, Twitter, and the forums. It means using email to email out all of their big updates to everybody they have an email address for (which includes all the kickstarter backers, as well as any that signed up via paypal, as well as people who signed up just onto the forums). While that percentage could be accomplished, I'm going to hope they spend more time focused on the game rather than trying to figure out that number. That's time that does not need to be spent while working on getting this game out.

They haven't always posted their updates here to Kickstarter, and that is something that probably should have been done. However, every update that was posted to http://www.becomemagi.com/activity/updates/ *has* been emailed to everybody. I know, because I'm among the people who have received them. Since those are their official updates, they should have been reaching everybody who backed on Kickstarter as well.

As to who has been elevated? I'll post forum names. If those individuals wish to reveal their real names, they're welcome to. I have heard conversations, though, where it seems like some people prefer to keep their real names dissociated from their forum name, so I won't post that.

Could we have a % of backers that have been able to become regularly involved on the forum compared to the number that have paid through kickstarter (Legacy Speaker being the most important group) and this will show us how successful the choice to use the forums have been to communicate with backers.

I'd also love a list of people who have been elevated and why as it would be nice to thank them for their contribution to ST and of course find out some of the information and what has changed :)

@Michael, that's rather troubling to hear about. I don't really care for having things like that changed while the rest of us are in the dark about it. I haven't been following things too closely on the fora lately because I haven't had a stable internet connection and nobody to playtest with.

I don't like the idea of people being randomly elevated when most of the community isn't aware that it was even a possibility.

It's a bit like during the campaign when people were sitting there hitting F5 a million times hoping to get a new speaker antagonist line. I literally missed that by like 2 minutes.

I'm not really griping, I just think these things could have been handled with more care. It's a bit disheartening to find out that these things are happening and most of the backers aren't aware of them.

The names on becomemagi.com are not tied to Kickstarter. People signed up and chose their own name. When things shake out in the end, your backer level on kickstarter will need to be confirmed, and your profile will have that information.

Backer surveys: I haven't ever gotten a confirmation on the surveys from any kickstarter project. If you have, could you tell me how to enable it? I'd like to see it.

!Industrial Scribe: Elevation has been done based on participation.

For instance, several people have been elevated to "Sphere Keeper" status. That status was granted because those individuals focused on reviewing spells in that sphere, and continue to do so today. Their comments, suggestions, and even new spells aligned with the vision held by Chris and the SoG for that sphere, and as such those individuals act as a first line review team for the SoG. In the end, Chris and the SoG make the final choices as to what the spells look like, and whether or not they will be included, but being able to have a group of people dedicated to this has helped them out tremendously.

Another participant who uses the name Flare is the individual responsible for creating the card creation/management tool. He started with a very basic tool to help him print low ink versions of the cards back with playtest version 1.0, and has built up the end result tool that we see today.

Any elevation that has been granted has been earned by participating somehow. Card comments, forum posts, or just taking charge of something that wasn't part of the project/process, and making something so useful that the SoG started using it themselves.

Finally, the back story: There is a forum thread called "The Retelling" that is probably as close to canon as any of us can get right now. It's not canon, and it's likely to be rendered mostly (if not entirely) invalid when the release occurs, but it's still a fun participation thing for those who are participating. becomemagi is a very small subset of backers and I'm not sure what the rules are but some backers have been elevated for reasons I am unclear on. I'm not clear on the meta story that has been formed by the SoG and ST and where it is available from.

I am sorry to say that the site is not the most user friendly and I dislike spending any time in there. Please copy&paste any and all communications that you release on the forums through the KS channels. Until this game is shipped and in our hands this is a KS project in all it's glory.

Respect the KS community and use the structure that has funded the Sons of Gabrielson so handsomely. When you release expansions off ST own back is when you can divorce yourselves from the KS site.
