Bringing a photography exhibit featuring different Middle Eastern lifestyles to the Midwest.
I am a storyteller. I have previously used my work to capture and communicate scenes that are often overlooked by the mainstream media.
For this project, I hope to document lifestyles in the Middle East, with an emphasis on Jordan. Help me travel to the Wadi Rum desert, religious Jerusalem and coastal Aqaba to gather photograph-based stories. Upon return to the Midwest I plan on compiling them into a traveling exhibition.
The mainstream media allows many people to easily associate the ideas of terrorism, bombs, explosions, death, misery, and oppression with the Middle East. I plan on going beyond that by documenting the daily lifestyles of the many different people living there.

This past year, I had an opportunity to travel to Bangladesh through the American Youth Leadership Program. Before traveling there, I had only seen the story of Bangladesh through magazine pictures, depicting cyclone-swept homes, displaced communities, rampant poverty and crowded overpopulated cities. Traveling there I saw the sad images transform into reality, yet these scenes were also alive with hope, simple happiness, determination and good-will. I brought back many pictures to the U.S. and shared them in a "Bangladesh and Climate Change" exhibition with 1,000 Minnesotans over a period of 3 months. I found that people were moved by the vocal message I brought and appreciative of the fact that art could bring them a new perspective of a part of the world they thought they understood.
Similar to climate change in Bangladesh, the Middle East is often depicted in a negative light by mainstream media. In the aftermath of the "Arab Spring" (the spark of which some say has yet to dim) I believe it is important to document how people are living and reacting to change happening all around them.
Help us document the photographs and stories of the Middle East, which will then be presented in a traveling photography exhibition throughout Minnesota through 2013-14.
In the end, our project will give voices to many people living in the Middle East, allowing them to visually communicate their stories in the U.S. Midwest.

What does the money go towards?
In a nutshell: Travel and production costs.
In an opened nutshell:
- Production costs for the gallery prints.
- Creation of the pledge prizes (sharing the photographs with YOU is just as big a joy as sharing it through an exhibition)
- The rest will help cover travel and logistics throughout Jordan and again back in Minnesota.
What you can do!
This is about everyone. If we don't raise $10,000 by the deadline then no money is exchanged. But we could even go above and beyond that!
So share this project! Tell your friends they can support an incredible project that will get them a one-of-a-kind postcard. Tell them you're excited about investing in cross-cultural and global communication: via photography.
The more money is pledged, the more places we can bring this exhibition.
