About this project
In September 2008, the Madison County Economic Development Council (MCEDC), a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Ennis, launched one of the most unique annual sporting events in the entire state of Montana. This was the Madison Marathon. Its route was 26.2 miles along the Gravelly Range Road in the Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest in Southwest Montana. In August 2009, the 2nd annual Madison Marathon was held on the same route and it was a great success. This coming July 25, 2010 the 3rd annual Madison Marathon will be held. My name is Sam Korsmoe and I am the executive director of the MCEDC and the race director for the Madison Marathon. I need your help to make this truly unique event better and even greater than it has already become.
The Madison Marathon route starts at the base of Black Butte Mountain at an elevation of 9,200 feet. Runners will peak out on Monument Ridge at an elevation of over 9,600 feet and finish the race at Clover Meadows at an elevation of 8,550 feet above sea level. There is no road marathon in the entire United States run at a higher elevation. This is not a trail run. The entire race is run on a good quality gravel road. This marathon route has no pavement, no traffic, no huge crowds, and no hot and muggy temperature. There is only the opportunity to run a foot race on top of America and amid some of the most beautiful scenery in the state of Montana.
As of right now, the state of Montana can rightfully and proudly boast that it hosts the ‘Highest Road Marathon in America.’ This is your opportunity to help make the Madison Marathon a truly national and eventually an international event. We are a small nonprofit with very limited resources. We need to raise $3,000 to build an event website. Donors will receive the awards as listed on the right, but more importantly you can be part of something great and something that Montana will be very proud of. Madison Marathon Official Race T-shirt - - - Every registered runner in the marathon will receive a race t-shirt as part of his/her race entry fees. Like the poster, the t-shirt says to the world 'Hey, I just ran the highest marathon in the world. What have you done lately that's anywhere close to being that cool.' Donations of $15 or more will receive a complementary t-shirt and, since I am the race director and I can make such a call, you can lie to your friends that you ran the highest marathon in American even if you really didn't. I'll back you up!

Madison Marathon Official Race T-shirt & Race Medal - - - Like the t-shirt, all registered runners will receive a race medal for completing the Madison Marathon. A donation of $25 or more will earn you both the t-shirt and the medal and my own promise to back you up when you lie to your friends that yes, indeed, you ran the highest marathon in America. Please just don't claim that you won the race!

A 50% discount voucher (transferable to anyone) on the 3rd Annual Madison Marathon race entry fee for an individual race (not for the team marathon). - - - There is a entry fee to participate in the Madison Marathon (see in the $100 donors section below). A donation of $50 or more will get you a half-off voucher for the 2010 race either for yourself or one of your crazy running friends who would love nothing better than to run a marathon at an elevation of 9,000 feet.

Free Racing Vouchers!! - - - For every $100 donated, the donor will receive a voucher (transferable to any runner) for any individual (not for the team marathon) to compete in the 3rd Annual Madison Marathon free of charge. There is an entry fee to run in the Madison Marathon. The fees for the 3rd Annual Madison Marathon will be: Half Marathon - $40, Full Marathon - $70, and Team Marathon (four runners) - $140. Your $100 donation means a free entry voucher which would be a great gift to one of your much loved, if a bit insane, running friends or family member who has always wanted to run a marathon at 9,000 feet above sea level where there is no oxygen and seemingly not a lot of rational brain cells either.
