Update #5: Thank you for making Funsch Solos: One on One a success!
Thank you.
Really.
I am overwhelmed with the positive and generous responses to Funsch Solos: One on One and want you to know we could not have done it without your support.
The one-on-one viewings were incredible, and I've shared some audience response below. All of us as performers chose many different ways to interface (or not) with the viewer, and we adjusted these communications as the weekend went on. We found ourselves reacting/performing differently depending on if we knew the viewer or not. We played with the material in several ways, from complete improvisation to exacting repetition. I think most of us acknowledge an entire shelf of other options that could be employed when we revisit this again….which I hope we do.
Joanna G. Harris' review can be found here, and Emmaly Weiderholdt offers up a response at her site: http://stanceondance.com/.
Again, my heartfelt thanks for your support!
Christy

“I was so energized. Thank you. I anticipated being nervous—it was so intimate—but it was invigorating and amazing.”
“rip, wrestle, dip, splash, froggy elegance and cardboard magic…my heart is racing…I feel more ready…thank you for this…I want MORE.”
“It was almost like a doctor’s appointment, only the doctor cared, and you left feeling healed. A handshake and a dance keeps the demons away.”

Update #3: We made it!
Well folks, we made our goal, and I cannot thank all of you enough for your generous support of Funsch Solos: One on One!
I am thrilled and touched at the incredible outpouring of kind words and cash monies thrown our way over the past month; it is truly humbling. We are putting the final touches on the solos in these last couple of weeks of rehearsals. Loud shouts out to the fierce dancers who are giving everything they've got to realizing each moment of each piece. I cannot wait to get the show up on its legs and to start the conversation. I look forward to seeing you at the show, and to hearing your responses to the one-on-one viewing experience. Those of you out-of-towners unable to make the show, know that you are appreciated and you will be missed!
Again many thanks; this concert could not happen without you--honestly!
xo, Christy
Update #2: Funsch Solos enters its Kickstarter home stretch!
Greetings and thank you, Kickstarter supporters!
We are a mere 12 days away from our fund raising deadline and we are fully confident we'll make it to our goal! Here is a little teaser excerpt of a recent rehearsal for one of the pieces that will have its premiere in Funsch Solos in one month. Enjoy and thanks again; we could not be producing this concert without you!
Best to you, Christy
Update #1: Funsch Solos: One on One and Flash Mobs of One!
Greetings, Kickstarter donors and thank you for your support of Funsch Solos: One on One! We are one-third of the way through our campaign (time-wise) and halfway to our goal. We are bolstered by your support and confident we'll enjoy a strong and successful finish in our remaining 30 days.
I wanted to share with you a couple of excerpts from our newly-launched publicity campaign, “Flash Mobs of One” which takes my solos out onto the streets of the Bay Area for impromptu performances. For me, solo performance is the simultaneous embodiment of power and vulnerability. In the theater, with predictable support from staging elements, solo performance is still charged with these two forces. Out on the streets, with the unknown variables of terrain and passersby, the stakes are raised ten-fold.
It has been enlivening to witness the solos performed in these diverse settings, and I'm thrilled to discover how these spontaneous run throughs will inform our ongoing work in the studio and our eventual work in the theater.
Enjoy the attached excerpts and again please accept my sincere thanks for your support!
Cheers, Christy
