About this project

Sean Blackman's "In Transit: Travel the World Through Music" concert will debut at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Sept. 24, 2010 - and then nationwide. This is our dream. 19 Armenian, Senegalese, Brazilian & Detroit Jazz musicians & dancers will bring out the gyspy in you, taking you on a journey to their homelands. This breath-taking show will bring world-renowned musicians to the Motor City, turning Detroit into the world music hub it's destined to be.

Close your eyes and the music will take you on a journey to a café in the Middle East, a village in Senegal, a beach in Brazil then brings you back to Detroit where you will hear the unmistakable husky vocals of soulful singer James Wailin and the jazz skills of legendary clarinetist Wendell Harrison...all on one stage.

To create this true culturally significant event, we need your help as we fly in (and fund) the world-celebrated musicians (kora, kanun players, etc.) and dancers (samba, capoeira, African stilt walkers) from multiple continents. Once we bring all the artists to the Motor City, we will spend a week together in one Detroit house, rehearsing. Then we'll unveil the show at the prestigious Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and then worldwide. A show never seen or heard anywhere. Detroit, in our hardships, needs this cultural spectacle of love and music - ancient beats from various countries blending beautifully with Detroit jazz is one we want to share with the world. Please join us.
