Connected as Aaron Landsman (1661 friends)
Aaron Landsman is a playwright and actor, whose theatrical performances are often staged in intimate, everyday locations. His most recent piece, Open House, was commissioned by The Foundry Theatre and performed in 23 New York City apartments. Past works include Love Story What You’ve Done, Desk, and Wreckage. Regionally, his work has been presented in Minneapolis, San Diego, Houston, Austin, and Philadelphia, and internationally in Sweden and Belarus. Aaron is a performer with Elevator Repair Service Theater, and has appeared with many choreographers, directors and composers. His work has been funded by the Vogelstein Foundation, Bossak-Heilbron Foundation, Jerome Foundation, the Brooklyn Arts Council and the NPN Community Fund. He has taught at The Juilliard School and NYU, and guest lectured widely on artistic process, collaboration and professional skills. This fall he is beginning a new, multi-year collaborative performance work called Appointment. The first two installments will take place at New York City's Prelude Festival in October 2009, and Oslo's Titan theater school in February 2010.
Hey Aaron,
I know you haven't asked for my 2 cents, but since I just pledged two tenners, I'm going to give you my two cents along with it: I'm also a theater artist, also fund-raising of course, might do some of that on kickstarter. I don't have any money to spare, but I've pledged two other kickstarter projects so far, and they've succeeded and I think the whole concept is brilliant. Now for the two cents: BREVITY! In the next 10 hours you need 80 more people to pledge $20 each. If 80 people pledge twenty bucks, you get $3,000. If they don't, you get nothing. I'm sure you have thousands of people on your mailing list by now. I'm sure MOST of them 1) have never heard of Kickstarter and don't know how it works, 2) can't quite picture how this Appointment thing works. And, I, for one, didn't even read your email till tonight, 'cause it's really long, and I'm busy.
So. Send out an email giving the most basic facts above: "If you pledge $20, I get $3,000. If you don't, I get nothing. If I get it, I can make a video and my unique art goes further in the world. If I don't, it doesn't. Pledge $20 today. I'll give you $20 towards your art when you need it.
That's my two cents. You're welcome to ignore it. Who the hell am I? But I'd like your project to get funded.
Anyone else reading this: Pledge twenty bucks! We're the community of artists! We can make each other's projects happen!
