For the last 3 years the Eisner nominated webcomic has updated twice a week. almost 400 strips later the epic story of our dishwasher still goes on strong. Twice I have run collections of these strips into two incredible books. Book 1 : Riddles and Shrooms and Book 2: the Lost Prince of Darkleaf. Now I continue the adventure in next incredible chapter of the Bean : Broken Souls.
As an independent creator, kickstarter has given us a way to tell creative stories and make our projects a reality and not just a dream. We are very grateful for what kickstarter has done to help creators of all the arts.
Today I come to you, to help me fund book 3 in my series. This is my plan, it hasn't changed since the last 2. I just want to tell a story and put it in book format. You have helped me do that.
The Bean, vo3 by Travis Hanson 172 pages (152 pages of story + extra art b/w) with a Full Color wrap-around cover. The printing cost for the first 2000 books with shipping is $5200 not including isbn fees and registration which after all is figured will hit about $6500 mark. All I will need is $5000 and I will be putting in $1500 of my own money to help make this work. It is important for me to support my project as well, it strengthens my commitment to it. PLUS I will cover all Shipping!
The Bean is an epic story, when I am done with it, it will cover 9 volume. That's a lot of story but I am determined guy with a strong desire to make my dream happen. One day I will color it - but only when I am done with the story.
This time around, I listened to the feedback and tweaked my reward system. I am offering some cool extras, including Maps to the world, more original art to the story as well as a chance for a cameo appearance of you in the comic. Please read through the rewards and find what is best for you. I want you to be happy.

We reached $10000 I am adding 8+ pages to the book. I will add more exclusive content to the book that is new and unique. So I am starting to plan this one out.
New Stretch Goal: $15000- If we hit the 15000 mark I will be adding special bookmarks to each book.
If we reach $20000 I will print a new special book that involves the art of the bean - softbound. I will upgrade each hard copy book reward with this book and a pdf version to the pdf rewards. So you get a new unique book along with book 3 of the bean.

Yup. PDF's are available for all hard copy book pledges.
Just plain and simple -
Shipping is FREE domestic and international- I cover that- yet, shipping international is expensive, so we use usps. Which means it might take time to get to you (sometimes 2 months) IF you want it quicker I will have to add $30 to your pledge and I will make sure it has tracking information.
Domestic Shipping comes pretty quick- so I cover it all.

There will be 9 or 10 books all together. The ending is done- now it's getting there.

$75 gives you all 3 printed books, a map, the pdfs and some extras:)

As an independent comic creator, we have an uphill battle to tell our stories. It's hard to find an audience. So we are learning to create one. By posting the whole story for free as I go along, allows my audience to grow. I have learned that they want printed books as well. They and I like have that printed book in hand. It wont be online forever, while in print you can keep it on shelf.
The second reason- is I need to support my family and so this helps. Because people buy the books, it allows to keep working on the story and putting food on the table. A lot of independents work this way, because we have found that it works. If there are webcomics out there that you enjoy- i encourage to go and support their creators if they have printed material.

I have 38 pages still to draw and wanted the time to not feel too pressured - I want the project all but done by the time the kickstarter closes

Well it all depends on how much we go over on what we can do. Some of that goes to shipping, while I am looking at adding even more pages of extras to the book maybe another sig of 8, which means even more goodies in the back. Also thinking of putting another smaller book of the bean illustrations together and if we go way over than we will be able to do that as well.
Yet we are not there yet and will cross that bridge when we get there. The most important thing though is to make sure that I make the rewards and gifts worth it.
