Update #6: Slow but steady

Posted on February 22

Hello!

I'm writing to confirm that we are alive and we are indeed still making a film! It is taking longer than we thought due to various circumstances, some related to the film and others not so much. What's that saying about the only thing you can count on in life is inconsistency or something? I'm badly paraphrasing here. Suffice it to say that it was a crazy year.

The good news is that we are making a feature! This happened kind of by accident, but it feels right and we are going with it. An accidental first feature. That seems quite appropriate.

Part of what I loved so much about making this film was the loose structure, the openness to improvisation on set, the use of natural locations. And all of these wonderful things lead to another exciting thing: lots of freedom to experiment in editing. Which all sounds so great (and is), except that it is quite time consuming and sometimes feels like there are endless possibilities. We've been (mostly) enjoying the process, but we are getting very anxious to finish this thing and share it with all of you!

So to give all of you generous and patient contributors a more detailed update: we have a solid rough cut of the film and are now trying out some voice-over narration (that's not time or narrative specific) over visual images taken from shooting that are interwoven into the film. We weren't sure if it would work or not, but we tested it in a couple of places and were very happy with the result and it helped to kind of reinvigorate us in the editing process. After that we plan to do a little color correction and sound mixing and then get it out there.

We'll also get on those rewards. It'll be the worth the wait, we promise.

Update #5: Seafaring

Posted on September 17, 2010

Greetings from production in Omaha & various nebraska towns!
After a week of location scouting (aka knocking on strangers doors and roaming around farms, fields and rural towns), rehearsals, meetings, etc, we are a few days into shooting. It has been exciting, fun, exhausting, a bit crazy - all the usual production adjectives! Our actors and crew have been amazing and our footage looks great so far. Adapting to unexpected bumps in the road here and there but it's all part of the process and we are extremely inspired by our seafaring team and the shooting experience so far.
Here is a link to some on-location production stills:

Thanks to all of you generous backers for helping us make this happen!

Update #4: We made it!! (and clarification re charging your credit cards)

Posted on August 30, 2010

Thanks to all 55 of you! We reached our budget and are ready to go. Wanted to clarify something about the charging of the donations: you were all charged 1 time, last night, after we reached our goal. How this works is that you set a dollar amount goal and a timeframe. People pledge amounts but you do not get charged (and we do not get the $) unless we meet the goal in the set time frame. So don't worry - you did not get double charged. Everyone was charged last night, right after our set time frame expired, because we did in fact meet our goal.
Thanks again and more to come soon! L & L

Update #3: Final Day!

Posted on August 29, 2010

Hello Backers!
Well 1 day left and thanks to all of you, we are certain that we will meet our fundraising goal in this final day. We are so humbled, inspired and energized by all of your generosity and support to help us get Seafarer off the ground. Thanks to you we begin shooting in 2 weeks. We are working day and night to get it all in place and have an outstanding cast and crew set & ready. We are so excited to get this show on the road. Updates and stills from the crazy world of production will be on the way soon.
Happy end of Summer!

Update #2: Website

Posted on August 10, 2010

The website for the film is launched and you can check it out at www.seafarerfilm.com. The talented and generous Cody Peterson from SecretPenguin created the site and we love it!

We'll be adding any new content that's necessary along the way. We've been very lucky to have some talented and experienced collaborators come aboard the project, which means that we'll be updating our crew section soon. Our production team is really coming together!
