About this project
SEAFARER is an original short film. It’s about floating between adolescence and adulthood. It’s about feeling swallowed up by a big city and yearning for a simpler life. It’s about realizing that every relationship in your life is in transition, from your parents to your partner. It’s about feeling lost and searching. It’s about realizing you are still young and letting go. It’s about getting up one morning and taking off, driving across the country, and landing in the Midwest.
SEAFARER is also about original music, landscapes, community, misspent youth, childhood memories, and the lure of escape. It is told through the eyes of Edie, a 20-something struggling to make it as a singer-songwriter in L.A. After impulsively getting in her car and heading east in the middle of a rough night, Edie ends up in Omaha, Nebraska, where she meets up with Josh, the leader of a reckless band and a ragtag group of friends. Searching for the site of her only memory with her father, Edie spends a few days wandering the Midwest landscapes and the Omaha punk scene as she briefly escapes the young life she’s built for herself.
More than plot, characters and tone will drive the film. We want to capture the small moments and gestures, genuine interactions between people, and the palpable connection between emotions and surroundings to create a feeling of naturalism. The goal is an intimate portrait of a person during a transitional time in her life.
Any pledge to this project will go directly toward this independent production led by Lindsay Trapnell and Laura Hunt. We are shooting on location in Omaha, NE, in early fall with an amazing group of local friends, volunteers, and artists that make up the cast and crew. Our most expensive costs include procuring camera and sound equipment and accessories like lenses, a dolly, a car rig etc. These items, which are quite costly, are critical to our film as the story will be told primarily through visuals. We will also use money raised to feed our cast and crew, pay for necessary travel, create DVDs, and market the film and enter festivals.
We've wanted to make this film for a long time and are so excited to see it come to life. We appreciate any help and can’t wait to share Seafarer with you soon!

Yes, we know this is a little vague, but trust us. It will be cool and feature some original and unreleased songs. We'll provide more details as they come. We'll also send you a uniquely chosen, handwritten postcard (collected from lots of random places).

LINDSAY is a part-time filmmaker, visual arts & film/video teacher, freelance writer, photographer, drummer, and pizza-eater.
She grew up in various Midwest cities, attended University of Michigan for undergrad and received her MFA in Film from USC School of Cinematic Arts. She currently lives in Omaha and has a dog named Esme. Lindsay has trouble recycling newspapers without reading all the articles, which sometimes proves to be a problem.
