Hi, I'm Bobby...Nice to meet you. I'm a lucky guy...35 years as a touring musician..how cool is that!.In the last year my CD "that's why i don't sing the blues" garnered SIX 1st Round Grammy Nominations and I played a few hundred shows, but staying on the road has been impossible. Yep, I'm Bobby and I play Contemporary Blues and You know me...You've heard me on the radio,, XM,MTV, VH1, Man vs. Food, Bad Girls Club,One Life To Live, The Weather Channel. I have fans everwhere, and I'm just starting to reach some of them at 58 years old. I was the guy that was playing and singing in the background with Steve Winwood, and Lou Gramm, Robin Beck and Benny Mardones. I played the only guitar solo on Clarence Clemmons' "HERO" album. Since 1990, I have been a Contemporary Blues solo artist with four CD';s out. "Holdin' Ground" in 2003 got a 1st Round Grammy Nomination for "BEST CONTEMPORARY BLUES ALBUM" as did "Bobby Messano Live in Madison" in 2010. "that's why i don't sing the blues" which came out in 2011 got SIX 1st Round Nominations in FOUR categories. I LOVE WHAT I DO and I always say, I play the same for 100,000 people as I do for ONE. There is nothing better then this...
My band and I play between 120-175 shows a year and I record a CD a year. I ALWAYS pay my wonderful players the best I can and try to stay in nice hotels I try to make sure they are as comfortable as possible, because this is a very difficult existence and as the boss, it is a CONSTANT struggle keeping afloat, especially in this economy. On the other side, the rewards are amazing...applause, people freaking that they "just saw a $100 show for $10.00." "I feel like I just saw Jimi or Eric" is still an incredible thing to hear, We travel as far as possible and I play shows that sometimes last for 3 hours. Like I said, it doesn't get any better then that! At home I have a beautiful wife and a beautiful 9 year old stepdaughter, a rescued greyhound and two rescued cats. I'm not home a lot...but, that is the life of a musician and that is one reason that true fulltime on-the-road musicians play such great music and have such heart and soul...Someone said you need to put in 10,000 hours to become great...I've put in a few hundred thousand!
This Kickstarter is to help Record a LIVE DVD, Offset touring costs and Record the follow up CD to "that's why i don't sing the blues"
Here's a breakdown of what will need to be funded:
CD RECORDING COSTS: $7,000
- STUDIO TIME,PRODUCERS, TRYING TO PAY MUSICIANS,MASTERING, MANUFACTURING,POSTERS
DVD COSTS: $5000.00
- CAMERAS, CREW, EDITING, MANUFACTURING
TOURING FLOAT/VAN: $8,000
- EXAMPLE:TO GET TO A SHOW IN WISCONSIN COSTS ABOUT $900...THAT'S JUST TO GET THERE AND PLAY THE 1ST NOTE-FUEL,HOTEL, BAND,TOLLS
I have almost 100 shows booked so far this year (See Below) the float is working capital to be able to get to shows, just as a restaurant needs to pay staff and buy provisions to open for dinner.
