A Documentary about uniforms
Your ID Please! is a feature documentary that weaves together the lives of four frontline characters to explore how the uniform can be an expression of human belonging, or of being made to belong.
Schoolgirl, prisoner, maid, marching band.
Uniforms are worn by millions of people around the world every day. They communicate visual messages about who we are, and how we perform our identities. Transforming the powers and freedoms of those who wear them, uniforms oil the subconscious wheel of human behaviour.
Divided into vignettes entitled Love, Fear, Subversion, and Conformity, Your I.D Please! is an image-driven, series of four inter-woven character portraits which explore uniform as a visual language that expresses the struggle for human identity, following:
- A London teenager who wears the Jilbab to school.
- A waitress at a “maid café” in Shibuya, Tokyo who wears a fetishized French maid uniform to work.
- A member of a youth marching band in New Orleans.
- A member of The Numbers gang in a Johannesburg prison who's intricate home-made tattoos function as a secret language.
It is our goal that with a little help from you, and the Kickstarter collective, we will be able to take this project into phase two, shoot and cut a trailer - and seal those deals with funders who like what they've seen so far. Your donation will be used to cover the travel costs for on-site research and trailer production.
