We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!
Photo-main

Twenty teen journalists will cover 3,000 miles in ten days, finding, shooting, and uploading video stories, blogs, and photo galleries.

THE CHALLENGE

There a millions of stories out there. We plan to find as many as we can in just ten days, and share them with the world.

The staff of "HTV Magazine," the award-winning broadcast produced by students at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, MO, is hitting the road on July 25 of 2011. Our goal is to swing south, through Memphis, New Orleans, Panama City, Charleston, Knoxville and Louisville, looking for stories we can share each day via our website, www.htvmagazine.com.

THE PROCESS

We will upload video stories, photos, audio clips, and daily blogs each step of the way. Our online audience can post feedback about our content, suggest stories, and virtually take this journey with us.

This is our second attempt at such a tour. Our first took place in March of 2009, and it was the most educational, "real-world" experience we have ever experienced. We certainly think it is worth repeating.

"Convergence" is what modern journalism is all about...telling stories in numerous ways, using all sorts of tools and technology. The twenty students tackling this project will have the unique opportunity to face the following challenge every day: "Get off the bus and find a story."

THE GOAL

The entire project will cost about $22,000. Our $6,000 Kickstarter goal, if we reach it, would cover about half of the cost for our transportation.

We hope you will support us, then follow along online next summer as we head down the highway to do journalism the old-fashioned way, while delivering the results in a 21st century way.

NOTE

None of the students participating in this 2011 project were part of the 2009 tour. This will be a first-time experience for the 20 young people who hop on the bus on July 25 to make the trip across the South. They are not receiving class credit for the project. They do expect to become better journalists by participating, and they will all return to Hillcrest High School next fall.
