Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Over and Out!

Update #24 · Dec 21, 2012 · 16 comments

Hey Pocket TV-ers,

Merry Christmas to all. Ho-ho-ho!!! Even though here in Dubai we don't officially celebrate Christmas we do love the season. So here's wishing you all a great 2013! We hope it's filled with technology and new gadgets galore!

The One About Shipping

So we've now shipped around 95% of all our rewards. The remaining 5% of the rewards are still in our warehouse waiting for their rightful owners. The reason they weren't shipped is because we probably didn't get your phone number or because you didn't pay for shipping. If you haven't received yours yet or at least a fedEx tracking number drop us an email and we'll take care of it. Send it to kickstarter@infinitec.com. We'll also email you if we don't hear from you! And if you haven't paid shipping, well it looks like the UAE postal service is almost as expensive as FedEx so we're looking for alternatives. However for those who don't want to pay the $10 for shipping we implore you to change your mind. Everyone in this project has paid for shipping and we're struggling to find a cost-effective alternative to ship to you. Help us get your Pocket TV to you... Please.....

The One About Support

It's been a learning curve for us since day one. And it's no different now. We're having some teathing problems with some devices and some users. Most problems are just part of the learning curve of using a new device like the Pocket TV. It's human nature to try to use it like a phone or tablet, but it isn't either of those things. So sometimes it takes a few people some time to learn how to best connect it and use it.

At other times users have issues because the software is still in beta. We're really sorry about that and we're doing our best to get it out of Beta as soon as possible. But if you're having issues you'll probably find an answer to them in our forums. And if for some reason you happened to get a unit with hardware issues instead of software ones, we'll exchange it immediately. Just drop us an email and we'll take care of everything.

Please remember that we're 100% behind our product and that we'll always be there for our backers to make sure they're happy with their rewards. So if you have any issues or questions please drop us an email and we'll make sure we take care of it.

The One About Post-Kickstarter

As we close out this project we'll be monitoring the kickstarter site less and less. That doesn't mean we've abandoned the project, it just means that we've moved our operations to more traditional locations such as emails, user forums and the standard support solutions. So if you don't hear from us on Kickstarter shoot us an email. We always respond to those.

The One About a Christmas Surprise

To close out the year and this Kickstarter project we'll be launching a Christmas surprise: A Developer Kit for the Pocket TV! So if you're a Dev or want to mess around with your Pocket TV join our forums and wait till Christmas! You'll find a surprise under the forum's Christmas tree!

The One About What's Next For Infinitec

Over the next few weeks and months we'll be upgrading the software to a point of absolute awesomeness. We plan to make the Pocket TV the ultimate gadget for your TV. So bare with us as we go through this process and improve this little device. You can find regular updates through the settings menu of the Pocket TV under the About Pocket TV tab. Keep your toy updated and enjoy the rich new features that are coming your way in 2013. They also include an upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.2 in the early part of the year.

Also keep an eye out for Infinitec. We hope to make a big splash with more innovation and technology. We're keeping our fingers crossed. So if one day we make it big, we won't forget who supported us and helped us get there.

The One About... Goodbye!

So that's about it to wrap this little Kickstarter project up. But it's not the end. No, it's only the beginning for the Pocket TV. We hope to make you proud to be one of the people who first supported this project. So when Infinitec becomes a major player in this field, you can say "I backed them and helped them get started". And for that we're eternally grateful.

Happy holidays from Ack and the Infinitec Team. And like always, thank you for your continued support. You guys are awesome!

A few notes while you wait...

Update #23 · Dec 10, 2012 · 41 comments

Dear Pocket TV Maniacs!

The craze for Pocket TV deliveries is on and as of today Pocket TVs are starting to arrive at their new homes around the globe from the US to Australia! We're psyched to see so many excited people and we're thrilled at all the positive comments we're starting to receive. After months of hard work our efforts are paying off and we're loving your feedback. Please keep it coming. And if you haven't received your Pocket TV yet please don't worry, we're still shipping so it'll be on its way!

And while you're waiting for your Pocket TV here are a few tips that you should know for when you get it.

The One About The Air Remote

Some of you may experience some choppiness or inconsistencies while using the Air Remote. That's probably because your Pocket TV is plugged into the back of your TV screen where there is an intense amount of interference coming from our screen. That means that the RF signal between the Air Remote and the RF receiver is being blocked by your TV's interference. The best way to solve this is to use a USB extender cable (a basic male to female USB cable) and plug the RF receiver at one end of it while the other end is connected to the Pocket TV. That way you'll be able to move the RF receiver away from your TV and into a location that has less interference (in front of your TV screen). If you don't have a USB extender cable you can also use a USB hub with a long extension. (Pics of both options attached for visual explanation).

If you want to go the extra mile you can also get a HDMI extender to move the Pocket TV away from your TV screen all together. That will help with the WiFi interference as well. (Pic also attached).

The One About The IR Remote

The Air Remote is simply the best way to use the Pocket TV. If you backed the IR remote pledge only and didn't get an Air Remote, you may find that the user experience is very limited. That's because we never intended for the IR remote to be the only way of using the Pocket TV, but merely as an accessory. And from now on we're not selling the Pocket TV without the Air Remote any more since we don't see the value to that. So if you don't have an Air Remote we recommend you buy one from our online store at shop.infinitec.com or find a similar alternative. A mouse is not as fun but could work too.

The One About The Beta Software

If you find that the Pocket TV has some bugs or is slow with some apps that's because we're still not done with all our testing. From now on we're moving all our efforts from hardware and manufacturing to software development. Initially we focused mainly on the hardware because that cannot be updated once it's finished. However, the software can always be updated. Over the next few weeks and months we'll be releasing new firmware updates for your Pocket TV. We recommend you install them as we release them.

The One About Our Forums

We've also started our forums at infinitec.com/forum/ where you can find answers to commonly asked questions. Please also use it to report any bugs or issues you may find so we can improve our software in future firmware releases. Feel free to post opinions, feedback, questions and whatever you want. The only rule is to be courteous to others. We'll also try to answer as many questions as we can ourselves but we'll be relying on the community to help us out.

We hope that the wait for your Pocket TV isn't too long. We know you're anxious and so are we. We want to hear from each and every one of you and we look forward to hear both the good and the bad.

Once again, thanks for supporting us, for following our progress impatiently and thanks for putting up with us through this roller-coaster ride. You guys are awesome! THANK YOU!

Shipping update (don't panic!)

Update #22 · Dec 6, 2012 · 25 comments

Hey Pocket TV-ers!

Quick update. We've hit a small snag as FedEx f'ed-up (FedeExed up) and they haven't been able to ship out yesterday's shipments. That means they'll have to process them again and so all the emails with airway bill numbers that have been sent this far are no longer valid.

If you've received an email from FedEx in the last couple of days go ahead and disregard it. Within the next few hours you should receive a new email with a new airway bill number. That's the one you should keep and use.

Again, don't panic, don't send us an email asking if your shipment has been affected and don't email us about the status of individual shipments. We simply can't keep track of every individual during this time busy time.

Also note that this is not a set back, it's only a small snag. By the end of today we'll have processed and sent out 1000 shipments in total so we're well on our way to ship everything out by the 15th of December, maybe even earlier.

So don't panic or freak out if you haven't received an email yet or if you receive two. It's all just business as usual. If at any time you feel an attack of panic coming along or a strong urge to check up on your shipment grab a paper bag and breathe deeply into it!! But all joking aside, don't worry, we got this.

Here are some pics of a FedEx van full of Pocket TVs for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Shipping has started!

Update #21 · Dec 4, 2012 · 40 comments

Dear Infinitec-ers and Pocket TV addicts!

Yes the day has arrived at last! We're now shipping!!!! Hurrayyyy!!!!!

(wait for applause - just kidding!)

The One About.... Yup, Shipping

Today we started our first test run to make sure that our processes are all in place and working correctly and tomorrow we plan to start shipping in full force! What does that mean? Well, it means that if our estimates are correct and we can send out the expected 300 shipments a day, we should ship out all elegible Kickstarter rewards within the next 10 days. And because it's FedEx, you should get your Pocket TV within 2 to 3 days from receiving your tracking number, just in time for an early Christmas.

Why do we say eligible? Because we have several backers who still haven't given us their addresses or phone numbers or haven't paid for shipping yet. Those rewards we'll have to leave for later unfortunately. But wait a second... before you PANIC and start typing an email to give us your shipping address again "just in case we don't have it", please read on to the next section.

The One About What To Expect Next

First, PLEASE PLEASE, and we can't emphasize this enough, DO NOT send us any messages, emails or tweets asking about your shipment status over the next 10 days. We're swamped trying to send out 300 packages per day so we simply won't have time to respond to "what about me" messages. Also don't send us any emails saying "just in case you haven't got my shipping address here it is again". The shipping addresses for all but a few shipments are now final and cannot be changed. If you haven't given us your shipping address for some reason we'll notify you via email once we're done with this first batch of shipments.

So before you panic and start worrying, take a dep breath, relax, and give it 10 days. If by the 15th of December you still haven't received a tracking number then please check with us.

The One About FedEx

As soon as your package ships you will receive an email from FedEx on our behalf. It will let you know that your shipment has left our warehouse and is on its way to you. You'll also receive a tracking number so you can check on the whereabouts of your Pocket TV while it's in transit. It usually takes 2-3 days for FedEx to deliver to most countries in the world but if it takes a little longer please be patient. Sometimes customs clearance or imports into certain countries can take a little time.

Please note that once your Pocket TV has left our warehouse and is with FedEx we no longer have control over the shipment. If there are any delays or issues with the package please contact FedEx directly since we won't be able to help much at that point.

The One About An Almost Goodbye

So there it is folks. We're almost at the end of this sweet sweet ride and what a ride it has been! It's not the end yet though. We'll send another update once we finish this first batch of shipping. In the meantime feel free to post your thoughts and comments about your experience with your Pocket TV on our Facebook page or Tweet us. We're also working on setting up a user forum for technical questions and discussions. We'll update you as soon as we have that.

Thank you all again for the awesome support you've given us over the last few months. It's been quite a journey and we hope you'll enjoy the end result. But for now and until you get your Pocket TV, here are some pictures of our warehouse team to hold you over.

Shipping Soon

Update #20 · Nov 21, 2012 · 20 comments

Hey Pocket TV-ers!

It's been a while since we gave you an official update. That's only because we've been extremely busy finishing off our first production run. To be honest it's been a very stressful few weeks for us. Manufacturing is a tricky business and if you're not on top of everything at all times things can continuously keep getting delayed. And because we promised you that we'd stat shipping in the next few weeks, we have to live up to our promises. So we're happy to announce we're still on track!

The One About Shipping Dates

So the big question is, when will we ship? We promised to start shipping end of November and we intend to keep our promise. As of this message, the last manufacturing run is being assembled and tested with our manufacturing partner in China. They've promised to send us the first batch of Pocket TVs in 3 days time so that we can start shipping to you as soon as we receive the first units. We expect the bulk shipment to arrive into Dubai by the end of the month so if customs clearance and all the paperwork that goes along with that finishes smoothly we'll start shipping Pocket TVs to you by the end of November.

We've streamlines our shipping process here in Dubai so we expect the entire first batch of shipments to go out to all our backers by middle of December. That's around 4000 shipments in less than 2 weeks! You'll be getting an email from FedEx with a tracking number as soon as your shipment goes out. And because it's FedEx, you should receive your shipment within 2 days of leaving our facilities so well before Christmas. Please be patient while we deal with this insane amount of logistics that we have on our hands!

The One About The Beta Software

Even though our final hardware has now been ready for a while, the software is still a work in progress. And to be honest, this is a task that will never end as we keep adding software features and updating it to newer versions of Android. For now though, all Pocket TVs will ship out with a software that we're calling a BETA release. Why are we doing that? Because although the software is still awesome, it may have some small bugs that we're working to fix. We'll continue to work on these over the next few weeks and months and you can expect to get regular software updates through the update tool integrated into every Pocket TV.

We want to reassure everyone that the software is solid. But we like to be cautious as well. Hence the BETA tag. We hope that your feedback and bug reporting will help us improve the Pocket TV even further.

Finally just to thank everyone for their patience and support one more time. This has been a crazy ride with many sleepless nights and way more coffee than a person should ingest in a lifetime. But we're very proud to have reached so far in such a little time. And we owe it all to the support and backing of you, our heros. So the Pocket TV goes out to all you guys. Thanks for your support and patience. You guys ROCK!

Enjoy the below pictures of the 1st production run for the Pocket TV.
