A fun documentary about over-the-top college football fans and the culture of college football at USC.
For the past two years, the USC Trojans football team has been under NCAA sanctions. Not only have all of the team's players (who were not even at USC when the violations occurred) been penalized, but so too have its fans. Without the ability to go to the postseason, without the glory of winning a title, would USC fans still go to games? And if so, why? What are the passions that drive these Trojan faithful? And how do they express those passions? Whether it be family ties, city loyalties, team history or the desire for a shared experience, every fan has a reason for their passion and a very unique way of expressing it. As you will learn through the course of this film, football is not just about winning - it is about culture, community, tradition, family, performance, and much, much more.
Filmed by Dalton Gaudin as he was working toward his masters degree at USC and created with the help of the University, "I'm a Trojan" is an inside-look at the culture of college football at the University of Southern California - from the fans' perspective. This film follows the lives of five Trojan football super-fans - Helios, Brian, RJ, Shannon, and TyEli - and tracks their journey through the past two seasons as sanctions play out. It explores how being a fan affects their lives and what makes them so passionate about this team.
The film features music by The Spirit of Troy, TyEli, and Helios Hernandez.
MY GOAL FOR THE FILM
Simply put, I want to get the film out to as many people as possible. It is a film mostly intended for USC fans, alumni, and prospective students, but is easily accessible and can be enjoyed by anyone, football fan or not. It provides an interesting inside-look at fanaticism. I want to take the film on tour to USC alumni groups and ultimately start a sports documentary production company, producing similar films about other high school, collegiate and professional teams. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would be interested in helping me fund a film about your favorite team.
Kickstarter is the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world. Every month tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds of music, art, film, technology, design, food, and other creative fields. Every Kickstarter project must be fully funded before its time expires.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T REACH MY GOAL
If I don't raise my goal, I don't get anything. Donors pledge the amounts, but don't actually pay until the goal is reached and the funding deadline has passed. We all want to avoid this so please spread the word and tell your friends. Everything helps! When I meet the goal I will begin licensing the rights and finish the editing so that I can send you the DVD's and merchandise as soon as possible.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
This film is only going to be possible with your help (college football fans, independent film fans, and anyone who loves sports or documentaries). I want this to be your film just as much as it is mine and the other fans involved - this is a film for the fans, by the fans. The more people who participate, the more chance I have of getting the story out. To help out, please Twitter it, "Like" the project on Facebook, email this Kickstarter link around and let your friends, family, teammates, classmates, supporter groups, co-workers, bosses, postmen, baristas and anybody else that breathes air know about the film and this campaign. I would love for people to get involved on a local level. Email DaltonGaudin@gmail.com to get more information and become involved.
